Also in the article is quotes by Gus Frerotte that are not included in the front page version:

Dolphins quarterback Gus Frerotte knows how holdouts can adversely affect high draft picks. In 1994, while quarterback Heath Shuler was in a 13-day contract dispute with the Washington Redskins, Frerotte was in camp, learning the offense - and was the starter, even after Shuler got a $19 million contract.

And Frerotte said he's impressed by the way the corps of runners in camp have worked so far.

"These guys have been sweating it out with us," Frerotte said. "You've got to get in here as a rookie. That's what happened to Heath. He missed most of training camp. I took all his reps and we all know what happened there. I think that affected him greatly. ... I hope Ronnie gets in here soon. We need him."

does anyone really think he would say: ohhhh, him not being in camp is going to really put him behind? gimme a break.

[font=verdana,sans-serif]DAVIE, Fla. (AP) - The NFL's top draft choice is under contract, ready to make his preseason debut this weekend. Meanwhile, No. 2 pick Ronnie Brown continues to sit, wait and wonder when his first NFL action will arrive.

Brown, who probably will get a deal that includes somewhere around $20 million in guaranteed money. That's $4 million less than what the No. 1 pick, quarterback Alex Smith, received from the San Francisco 49ers. They say he'll start their preseason opener against Oakland on Saturday.

The Cleveland Browns are apparently close to finalizing a five-year deal with the No. 3 draft pick, wide receiver Braylon Edwards - and whatever guaranteed money Edwards gets in his deal could be an indicator of what Brown and the Dolphins will eventually settle on in their talks.

But Brown's agent, Todd France, said seeing the terms of Edwards' deal isn't a prerequisite for his client getting something done with the Dolphins.

"We are fine moving forward to finalize a deal with or without that deal," France said by e-mail. "We have never felt that deal had to get done first."

France said Brown's regular training regimen includes weightlifting and cardio work. "He is ready to go practice as soon as things get wrapped up," France said.
