MERGED: Groh also a New England DC candidate

Competition for Al Groh?

Palm Beach Post (Daily Dolphin) points out a great point. Al Groh not only has ties with Parcells but also with Belicheck. Maybe the Patsie jump into the running to hire Groh as suggested. This could boost our chance of landing K.Butler.

One other name that hasn't been mentioned but seems intriguing to me is Kevin Greene. He was a ferocious defender and has done a magnificent job with the Packers LB's this year. Don't know if he would be ready to take on such a role but it could be intriguing. I just keep thinking of him and Gregg Lloyd back in the days. They were a force to be reckoned with. I believe he has coached LB's in Carolina as well and maybe one other place which is escaping me.

Another Name that would be a fiery coach that would be a blast from the past is Bryan Cox. Again, may not be ready for such a position but I believe he is coaching the LB's in Cleveland?

Keith Butler may also be on NE's list.

I don't really see that for this reason. Bellicheck said he wants to hire someone who will challenge him on some issues. I see Groh as a much more likely candidate to do so than Butler. Butler is an up and comer but no really a proven commodity so I don't see him challenging Bellicheck all that easily. Groh on the other hand being a friend and colleague would challenge him much easier and he also has experience on his side and is a proven commodity.

NE is just doing this so Parcells gets Groh quicker. Typical NE wisdom. haha

One name i dont hear much about is Dick Jauron..........he is a great DC, sucks as a HC but I wouldnt mind bringing him aboard.

Why the lovefest for Butler? Yes I know he is a good LB coach, but what has he done to show he would be a good DC?

HEMIDEMON: [my mopar brutha], this is how you find out.

all a guy can do is stand on his body of work as to date, player
or coach.

no! just like a college draft pic, you dont know how a guy will turn out.

but it appears you havnt followed much of butlers career and what he has
accomplished. he is well thought of around the nfl both with coaches and
players. he has been offered other dc jobs for a while. his work with his
position is second to none and he has learned under what may be the best
3-4 mind in the nfl.

you PAY to have the oportunity to land this kind of talent. just like you do
that prize rookie who ran for over 2,000 yds at a big school against the
best college talent. you shell out for that type of production. and you wont
know how it will turn out. its a better bet though than passing that talent up
hoping you get some smaller school 1400 yd rb who faced week small school
talent to pan out.

could go either way, and it has. but in ANY deal, you have to decide on the
body of work already in place and if that person was responsable for MOST
of his successes and not just a product of a system.

butler is just that well thought of as a coach. what can you say?

better to pay out for this chance at this type of talent to pass him by
for a cheaper re tread who has shot his load like al groh.

YES!! PATS! PLEASE, SIGH AL GROH.

AL, THE FINZ SUCK AND WE WILL FOR years to come.

the pats are close to another ring. this would be a great chance for
you to get a quick ring and ride off into retirement saying you were a
part of 2 superbowl wins.

thats the ticket al. go be with bill billichek. its a winning deal all the way
around for you.

Cool they can have Groh.

Phins get Butler and Wilfork =O)
