The surprise coming out of the second day of training camp had to do with the evolving offensive line as projected starting right guard Rex Hadnot has been taking more snaps with the second unit.

Dolphins coach Cam Cameron admitted that the starting unit is far from set.
Hadnot has been the Dolphins starting center for the past two seasons but this offseason he was moved to the starting right guard spot. Left guard seemed up for grabs between veteran newcomer Chris Liwienski and rookie Drew Mormino. However, so far in training camp, Cameron has been experimenting with Mormino and tackle Anthony Alabi at right guard with Liwienski manning the left side. The tackles seem established with Vernon Carey entrenched at left tackle and veteran L.J. Shelton on the right side.

"We're a long way in terms of making any decisions on who the starters will be,'' Cameron said. "There will be some different combinations working throughout training camp. Every day is an evaluation process and this is the starting point.''

Wow........that's a surprise. I thought Cam stated to the press earlier this year that "Rex will be a great starting RG for us".

Make 'um work Cam!

Good to see as we "need" depth about every where especially the OL and secondary. With Allbia at guard who would be the backup OTs?

FinNasty in his report said Hadnot was one of the shining stars during practice. Guy didnt get owned once. Weird how some ppl have different perceptions. If Rex is working with 2nd team more today it doesnt mean squat yet IMO. Its all about looking and evaluating.

I wouldn't read too much into his practice with the 2nd team. The coaching staff is more than likely trying to get different looks to evaluate the players, hence.....

That wasn't the quote.

"We moved him to right guard, and he didn't look too big.... If that light comes on there, look out."

Perhaps the light isn't coming on. Honestly I don't expect to see Hadnot extended anyways. He'd cost far too much for really a marginal player who doesn't move well.

Cameron gave a pretty flimsy excuse to Shelton when he inquired about it:

"He just explained that they want to keep Rex and I together and that they want us to work with the younger guys," Shelton said. "It was nice to get that explained to me by the head coach. I felt much better after our conversation."

i'm not sure about the Americanisms about your statement, but I had Hadnot as a lock at RG. I never wanted him to move to center, and thought that guard was his position always. "light comes on" sorry I dont know what you mean shag. costs too much--i thought he was a reasonable price for a Guard--left or right?

Wow!

These reporters just don't get it!

I wonder if they're going to do an article on how Jason Taylor's job is in jeopardy next? Afterall, Abraham Wright has been taking some of his snaps with the first team as well!!!

Since the first day of camp, they've been switching the starters around on occassion. It gives coaches the best way to evaluate a player. It gives them a good idea of who is the better backup at all positions.

Sure Hadnot can end up being replaced. Sure Mormino could be the one to replace him, but after 3 stinking practices?

This is a case where the link stinks. IMO!

worry not, "our" guys said he rocked, and really, if he plays great and gets beat out, it's a win/win anyway. Nasty and cashman both said good things about Rex.

the "light comes on" is a phrase to describe an epiphany.. a sudden realization, just like the cartoon where the guy is scratching his head and then a picture of a light-bulb lighting up shows up above his head, as he gets an idea. If all the pieces come together for Rex, if the light come on... he will be a dominator.... hows that shag?

Hadnot's job is safe. He's the second best guy we have on the oline...

BUT, Cam did say they werent looking for the "BEST" olinemen, but the 'BEST COMBINATION" of linemen. I think Hadnot will start too, but it wont be because he is one of the best linemen, but because he is one of the best at working with whoever is next to him in combination.

Well, I'll be the first one to go against the grain a little. I like Hadnot but he has been average to good at best since he came here, and it's only been practices without pads so far, and today's practice was in the bubble.

You said it best though. If the light comes on nice and bright he can be excellent.....
