Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga is fed up. Last spring, he stressed the importance of his draft picks reporting on time, then watched top pick Jason Allen hold out. Though his comments will be met with skepticism, Huizenga vows a hard-line approach.

''I'm telling you -- mark my words -- if that guy is not in camp on the first day, he will sit out for the year,'' Huizenga said Friday. ``The Dolphins are going to take a stand. We are not going to pay some guy a whole bunch of money and he comes in five weeks late. . . . That is not going to happen. We went through a couple of times where the guys are not in camp and not as productive as they should be the first three, four, five games. I am not going to go through that again. . . . I'm not taking a shot at any player or agent.''

Huizenga insists it's no idle threat. The problem is, no agent would believe Huizenga's threat. And it's difficult to envision the ninth overall pick being banished if he's close to signing but a few days late.

Good news, I hope he backs his words.

Let them sit a year and work at a fastfood place. They go back into the draft the following year.

Fletcher held out and got big bucks and did nothing for us. Jason held out and we will see if he is worth the bucks this coming year. Brown held out and to me he is worth the bucks.

Why would a guy hold out, when was the last time a guy that held out was ROY, you would think that earning a starting position and a chance at ROY would be more important than 10-40 thousand dollars, very small amount when talking about the whole first round contract.

in the pass it has alway been the length of the contract

That holdout really screwed Allen over. You could tell he was struggling to pick up the schemes (but he did get better and was able to get some PT). Had he not held out, IMO he would have been staring at FS.

I don't have a problem with rookie holdouts as long as their not long; both Ronnie and Allen held out into preseason. For Ronnie it wasn't as big of a deal since he's an RB, but that hurts a safety.

I've always believed there should be some set of "stadard" guidelines for draft picks. Pick 1 get between this amount and so on pick 2 gets a % of that. Of course, the position of a player (not where he was drafted) has something to with money as well.

You've got guys that sign these big contracts and turn out to be busts. Giving a lot of money to someone that hasn't even played a down yet in the NFL, doesn't seem to make the most business sense.

Oh well, hey it's not my money so ...

Good!

Hopefully we are one of the first teams to sign our 1st round pick. (Unlike the past 2 years w/ Allen and Brown.)

The NFL is the best run league in all of sports, however I think they should adopt the NBA system where a player picked in the draft can only get paid so much money based on where he gets picked. I hope Wayne sticks by his words and if he does I hope other teams follow his lead. I doubt this will happen because if you let the player sit out the year he can re-enter the draft the next year. So let's say at nine we pick Ted Gin and he holds out and WH sais your done for the year. We lose our #9 overall draft pick and never get it back. This would set he franchise back tremendously because the draft is how you build a consistent winner.

alotta players dont care about rookie of the year, if they're not getting the money they should be or want atleast

If Wayne thinks the reason Allen sucked was the holdout,he knows less about football than even he claims.

It was reported on local radio(760) that a couple of the radio guys got a look at the season end chart of Saban's "production points" for the defense.

JT and Zach lead the list with 300+ points. Allen had -1 and was dead last on the team....

And then we are out a pick....
