Merged: Interesting article about draft class

I never bothered to read the article when it first came out because of the poor grade but, the man has some valid points. I guess I didn't want to read the same thing that every other analyst has wrote on our drafting class. :(

One guy's opinion. Marino went 27th and Montana went 3rd round. Nothing means a thing till they play the games.

We will have to see. I like the early buzz we are hearing about Beck and Ginn. I can't wait to see some of these guys responses when Beck and Ginn turn out to be really good picks.

Dont know if anyone has posted this but here it is. I find this quote the most amusing.

"In fact, Beck is more of a backup in the pros in my opinion and I think the franchise is going to regret passing on the Irish signal caller down the line."

:err::jetssuck:

good article but a little outdated. I wonder what this reporters tune is now when he heard that Quinn disappointed the most out of any draft prospect during the recent minicamps and Ginn was blowing past our secondary and catching 30 and 40 yarders for touchdowns..

I think we are going to fine. We made a risky pick but looks to be turning out for the better for us to date

I followed Scott Wright's analysis before the draft, but never agreed with half of his assessments. He, like most people, bought into the Brady Quinn marketing foray, and it demonstrates that most anything can be successfully marketed; even the hype that Brady Quinn was considered a "franchise" quarterback before the draft. It's as if he had a silver spoon (Notre Dame) and never had to play a game in the NFL! Who made that proclamation? Did he kneel before a queen and someone tap him on the shoulder with the NFL Sword of Honor?

Draft pundits will be the first to remind people that nothing matters until the games are played, and until then, everyone's a gamble. It just so happens (and Scott Wright forgets to mention this) that the Miami Dolphins have a quarterback coach (Terry Shea) who worked with Quinn for a few months before the draft, and had Cam Cameron, a well-respected QB coach and developer in his own right work out Quinn. And Beck too for that matter.

I feel a bit more comfortable that two of the league's experts on QB coaching and development examined both products and chose what they felt had the better chance for success. Of course they have their own selfish reasons for doing so: they want to freakin' win!

But I am guessing that there was SO much pressure to draft Quinn, it was a prudent thing to hire Terry Shea and download his thoughts on the matter. I guess we still need to play the games. Maybe if Scott Wright knows as much about coaching and developing QB's as Terry Shea and Cam Cameron, then I may have cause for concern. It may indeed turn out that Brady Quinn develops into an excellent star quarterback. But I would rather put my money and my support where the experts have to make their living.

What intrigues me is the fact that anyone can voice his/her opinion on a potential NFL player come draft time. These so-called "experts" can be persuasive, but the fact of the matter is that potential sometimes doesn't amount to anything (e.g. Tim Couch). Coincidentally, as in many cases, players are undervalued and end up having stellar careers (e.g. Tom Brady).

Look, the NFL draft is widely accepted to be a crapshoot and the chances of landing that "superstar" are marginal, at best. There are many factors that lead to the success or failure of any professional athlete, but none are more scrutinized than those in the NFL.

I think the Dolphins made the smart move in not drafting Quinn. Terry's work with him may have led the Dolphins in the direction of Beck. We'll see in the years to come how these decisions will have worked out. For now, I'm anxious to get training camp open and see our roster come together.

This is a crap article.

Let me put it this way: Lets say the draft happens again and the fins take Ginn at #9. If the next team at 10 would have drafted quinn i would have serious doubts about our front office. But 12 more teams also had the chance to get him, but they didn't. Simply put this proves that a lot of his pre-draft Hype, was just that:Hype. I'm not saying that Quinn is not a good QB. What i'm saying is that his expectations are possibly higher than he can achieve.

I respect Scott Wright a lot, and everyone has their opinion, but I don't think he's correct.
