MERGED: Jeff Ireland involved in verbal altercation with fan on Sunday

The part that smells like BS to me is when other fans called in after Sean and described incidents where fans were trailing and heckling Ireland and he got mad and told them that if they keep it up he'll have them all kicked out, and then almost got into a fight with another fan.

I very much doubt that happened.

But the incident with Sean probably happened. I know people get on him for acting like a douche or whatever but honestly I don't mind that. The guy's a season ticket holder being sold a product and he gave some feedback about that product to the guy selling it to him. BFD. From what I've heard the guy Sean didn't just drunkenly slur out you should fire yourself, he actually argued and expressed his displeasure over certain moves Ireland has made.

I don't have a problem with Jeff Ireland's response, but I know this...the everyone made a BFD when Rex Ryan essentially did the SAME THING to heckling Dol-Fans, getting caught on camera flipping the bird at them. Ryan was at a concert with his brother as I recall, just trying to enjoy the show. Because of that photo he had to apologize publicly and he even had to pay a fine to the NFL for his conduct. And I know some of these same people defending Ireland's calling the guy an a-hole were probably critical of Rex Ryan for what he did.

I'm consistent. I have no problem with either incident. I thought Rex Ryan was well within his rights and I think Ireland was as well.

Good point about Rex.

There is no doubt Ireland should have ignored the heckling and went on with his day.

But, quite frankly, I pretty tired of the media-fueld witch hunt against Ireland. The guy may or may not be a good GM, but just let the thing play out. If there are no results after the year, he will be gone. Why constantly criticize every little damn thing the guy does? I realize its a high pressure job, and comes with the territory, but the way the media revels in every failure by Ireland seems childish and immature.

I don't think the witch hunt of Jeff Ireland is media fueled at all. I think it's fan fueled, and I think there's plenty of fuel for their fires.

When you're losing, everything is bad. That's the way it is. They need to win more games. I bet Steve Ross would hate it even more if those conversations just weren't even happening period...because nobody cares.

After beating the Raiders? That's like strutting around after winning the special olympics.
That was a disgusting comment about the special olympics.

If beating the Raiders was such a cake walk and expected, why was Miami being called the worst team in the league and ranked 32 in power rankings? Either Miami blew out a team they weren't supposed to beat, or they are not as bad as people have been saying.

Probably would have been better if Ireland said nothing, but I bet the majority of the people in this forum would say something like that as we are walking away after being confronted by a loud mouth throwing out insults. I see the media is starting to take this and running with it as Ireland is some big evil man because he called a fan a bad word after being verbally assaulted. Armando already has picked it up, and only a matter of time until Florio picks it up and adds his usual one liner insults about the franchise. Fans fly banners over the stadium, hold protests outside the training facility and even yell directly at the face of Ireland. But oh my God, Ireland calling a fan an ******* as he walks away makes him look like Hitler. If anything the one with the black eye in this story should be a fan, and I applaud Jeff for not giving "Sean" a real black eye.

After reading the story on the Herald it sounds like the guy kind of baited Ireland, Ireland made a remark which the fan understand but the fan wants action taken anyway. Sort of like spilling hot coffee on your lap and then suing McDonalds cause it was too hot...even though you shouldn't have had the cup between your legs anyway.

Sorry but on this one, if I'm the Dolphins I'm not issuing an apology or anything. I just don't think you can belittle someone and expect them not to respond negatively...even if it is Jeff Ireland. I understand the guys frustration and I'm upset with Ireland's performance as well but where is the fans accountability here?

I listen to a lot of Miami sports radio. These guys make it a daily habit of casting Ireland in the worst of light at all times. They bring on fan after fan to bash him, and if anyone dares defend him, they mock them mercilessly. Its a chicken and egg thing. Obviously there is reason to criticize the performance of Ireland, but the groundswell of hatred for the guy is disproportionate to his performance as a GM imo.

People act like Ireland single-handedly DESTROYED the Dolphins. Fact is, the Dolphins were already a rotting carcass by the time Ireland and Co. got here. And in context with the last decade, Ireland has probably been the best GM for the Dolphins, considering he has hit on some guys like Wake and Bess, whereas Spielman / Saban / Mueler contributed nothing whatsoever. Of course, that isnt saying much. Its comparing crap to crap, but still, Ireland didn't destroy anything, it was already in shambles.

I will agree with Spielman not doing much if at all and Saban absolutely gave us nothing but despite drafting Ted Ginn Jr. with the #9 overall pick, Mueller gave us Brandon Fields and Paul Soliai and those are the only two guys left from the 3 regimes you just mentioned...and for good reason.

Yeah, that wasn't very nice, I take it back. And I never thought it was gonna be a cakewalk. In fact, I picked them to lose. Still, it's the Raiders. Let's see them beat the Patriots, or any other team that matters.

This.

The fan expressed his displeasure at how this team is being run. This team made an active effort to become more open to the public this offseason, so they shouldnt complain when the public expresses its frustration at what they see. The guy didnt come out screaming, cursing, and kicking at Ireland. He sat there and told him Ireland should essential resign for the poor job he did. I also have no problem with Ireland refering to him as an a-hole(walking away or saying it to his face). Who would want to sit there and be grilled about their job performance by a total stranger?

Huge non-issue. Of all the reports that have come out the last few years about Ireland being a not-so-nice human being, this is easily the most laughable. Ireland shouldnt be fined or suspended or anything of the sort. To the fans credit, if it really was "Sean" who called in to the radio shows, other people are reacting more to this than he is. Nothing either person said to one another is wrong in my opinion.

World beaters. I'm not saying the Dolphins are any much better than them, but I'd rather save the chest bumping for when they actually beat a good team.
Uh, if we do that it might be awhile before we get to chest bump. We might want to take any opportunities we get. The Raiders are better than the jets, are you saying we shouldn't "chest pump" a win vs them "low lifes"?

Well this has all been confirmed and Ireland has called Armando and explained his side of the story, said he regrets using that word. He claims he thought he was saying it under his breath.

I call BS on that. It's a loud concourse. Nothing you say under your breath with your back turned is going to be heard by multiple people all around you.

Jeff Ireland's obvious little white lie pisses me off more than the incident, to be honest.

Well I was there and saw the whole thing. Jeff did NOT call him an A-hole. Jeff walked up to him and broke into a martial arts stance, and commenced to lay down a ol fashion butt whopping on this dude, "Bruce Lee" style. At one point during the altercation, Jeff jumped up and just hung in the air like they did in those old martial arts movies, or Road Runner cartoons, all the while screaming something in Japanese. After a few minutes Jeff landed in another martial arts stance and shook his head to remove the sweat, and reached up and wipped the blood off his lip (not sure where it came from), and then began moving his lips REALLY fast like he was talking but no sound came out. Then after several seconds you heard the words, from some where "wants some more sucka"?

Here is a picture I took with my phone of the other guy rignt after Jeff finished with him :boohoo:

If this happened on the street somewhere then I wouldn't have much of a problem with it, but Ireland was basically at work and the guy he called an ******* was a Customer. In any good business, you don't cuss at your customers no matter what they do or say. It was a clasless thing to do by the fan but Ireland should have been able to handle it and turn the other cheek in that setting.

If I were Ireland, I would've had my "security" escort the unruly patron, and have them introduce his face with pavement.

Loudmouths deserve what they get.

Against the Jets would be way more understandable. Still, they're a bunch of nobodies to me. I wanna beat good teams, and win big games.
