Who knows if he's any good as a HC but he sure seemed to do fine once he took over for us, not to mention he seemed to make our team energized. I also think this would be huge for JT and Zach to have him back.

Hindsight....again...

Clearly he would have been a better choice than Saban.
 
I don't want him back. Plus, the defense that Capers runs is totally different than what Bates ran. Its time to go in a completely different direction.
 
i like to see coaches like that. He made all of his players play to their full potential. I just want to see a coach who enjoys coaching and will not leave us after 2 years.
 
well i love the way our defense is now-and jim bates will bring the 4-3 and i love our creative defense the way it is

What's with all of this "Jim Bates = good replacement" talk that ESPN's C. Mortenson is spewing??....

Does this clown know the first thing about rebuilding a franchise?? Or coaching in general for that matter?? C. Mortenson is the last person Wayne / Miami Dolphins should be taking any coaching advice from in my opinion....

Now Bates is a fine defensive coordinator, but our head coach of the future?? Come on, Mort can't think of anyone better for the Phinz than Bates?? I think he's drinking too much of the "next year" kool-aid, and isn't taking a major rebuild into consideration. Hiring Bates would be like signing another old veteran{standing still}, instead of drafting a rookie{moving forward} in my opinion....

Everyone is entitled to their own personal opinion, and I'm sure Bates has some fans on this board, but I'd like to think there's no going back now, and hiring Bates would be like going back in time. That dog wont hunt....

We can do better than Bates, we can do worse. I think a large part of who we hire next is dependent on what Capers wants to do.
 
I think we need to keep the defense and try a new offensive approach. Maybe one of the young offensive coor. like Whisenhunt or Cameron.
 
Bates was there for Monday nite Comeback...

Dolphins 30-7 vs. Jets and then LOSE.....NO Thanks to Bates...
 
bates should be considered for the coaching spot. He did a fabulous job when he was the interim coach. He could not be any worse than Saban or Wanny.
 
Hiring Bates as our HC would set back the franchise greatly. He was a solid DC but not HC material. Capers has the defense working well and should be let alone to manage the D. The defense is not the problem here, we need an offensive mind at HC (Mike Martz). Bates would be make ZT and JT happy but they are only going to play for a few more years. They are not the future of the franchise and Bates should not be chosen for that reason.
 
We should have stuck with Bates in the first place. I have always said that. The players all loved him and he did some good things to end the disaster season. Doubt he would come back though. The guy was loved and could motivate. Those things go along way.
