What do you guys think of Josh McCown?

Clark Judge on CBS sportsline lists McCown as a possibility for us next season. I've been intrigued by this guy since he beat us last season. He's somewhat inconsistant, but seems to have that "it" factor for leading a team. And as horrible as AZ has been, they are 9-10 w/ McCown as a starter, which is pretty much as good as it ever getsin AZ. Too bad he fumbled at the goal line yesterday, though ...

Not saying he's my #1 option by any stretch, but he just might be the kind of QB we're looking for. Young, has talent and fire, and can be groomed to fit our system.

What are your thoughts on the guy? Pros, Cons? Would you sign him?

I wouldn't mind McCown at all. He's shown potential, and he's still somewhat young.
But wait, this thread will be flooded with posts on how he sucks and that Phillip Rivers is the future Dan Marino:rolleyes:

I used to love Rivers, but he seems like more of a slinger in the time I've seen him play, though, which scares me. While he was very accurate in college, he seems to have lost that so far. I'm sure he'll get better, but who's going to pay that Chargers' price for him. Plus, now, with Brees being hurt, will they even trade him?

McCown can probably be had for much less.

McCown would be a good FA option at this point. Gus's cap hit next year has grown to high and he will either restucture or be cut in a cap move. There are some other QB's that still may come available as teams change coaching staffs and rebuild thier teams. I'm still kinda hoping that the Raiders part ways with Collins and he gets a look, he looked good Saturday night and has the long ball that Linehan wants. Gus will never be more than he was this year, I think McCown and or Collins would be an upgrade.

I agree with most that he'd be an interesting option.. He is fairly accurate with his deep balls and that fits well with Linehan's O. Linehan predicates his O on 4-5 deep ball opportunities per game, if you can hit 2-3 of them...the offense rocks...However, McCown has a tendency to make a boneheaded play (be inconsistent) and that is something that Saban can't handle from his QB position. Could be interesting...I'd love to hear what Meuller thinks of him....

I for one would love to bring in Josh..

I watched a clip from HBO's Inside the NFL earlier in the season...and I watched Josh...stand up in the locker room after a AZ won and tell the guys to remember the feeling of what its like to win...and to build on this win. His leadership impressed me greatly.

He definatley has the arm..no doubt and is mobile enough to move around.

Definatley worth a shot..no doubt about it.

I hope Saban at least let's Randy talk a little this offseason, just to wet the fans' appetites. I doubt it, though, and as frustrating as that is for us - it's probably the best thing for the Dolphins chances of signing/drafting whomever.

I'm all for giving this guy a shot. It' be an interesting camp if he was pitted against Gus! I'd have no problem with Gus as the B/U for the next couple seasons or even more.

I wanted to start a thread about this but diddnt get the chance to...

Pat Kirwan and I belive it was Randy Cross were talking about potential QB's for Miami next year and all they could talk about was Josh McCown. 1 reason he wouldnt cost us that much (they brought up rivers and said they diddnt think saban would pay all that $ for an unproven guy but also said it possible because dolphins and chargers office have good trading repore) and AZ isnt gonna be interested in paying j mac , 2 he could be brought in here to just compete with Gus. Pat also said he was talking to Josh recently and when he asked him about how he felt about coming to the dolphins he couldnt shut up about it.

I dont know anything about j mac but i do know hes young been winning some games for AZ and if SABAN wanted him i would be happy with that decision as long as we draft someone, anyone this year.

In what I've seen of him, I do like his competitive edge, but his arm strength scares me a little bit, especially for Linehan's system, which uses the deep ball often to spread the defense out.

Now maybe I got a bad read on him the few times Ive seen him play, but I also know that Denny Green likes QBs with good arm strength and mobility, which means that a lack of one or both of those attributes might be the reason Green never totally committed to him in AZ.

That is one thing that scares me. Why is AZ so quick to part with this guy when they really have no other option short of Warner - and is he really an option anymore?

He has good arm strength and is pretty athletic for a Qb. I think he makes some boneheaded descions at times too. He's got close to a .500 record as a starter w/ the Cards and he has never had a running game to give him any protection. I think he is a poor-mans Culpepper I would like to see him here for a year.

When I read..He Blows..I immediately assumed this had to have been posted by a 15 yr old...then I see your 40. I would have thought you would have been capable of a more mature response. Have you ever seen him play?

By the way....Josh has a good arm...so arm strength isnt a concern.
