His name has been mentioned several times on this board and I believe on rotoworld as plan B if Pace signed with someone else. Well, that has happened and Blackstock is two years younger than Pace. And suppose to have as much potential. Pay less and get possibly as good a potential there? I have to believe Miami slowed down there free agency aggressiveness due to waiting on Pace. They have already re-signed Bell, so I expect they will target some other guys now.

Lee2000 p.s., you will likely read that he is a restricted free agent. He is not at present because Arizona did not tender him. He would have cost a 3rd pround pick, but is unrestricted at present.

Even if we had signed Pace, I always thought picking up Blackstock would be a smart move. C'mon down, Darryl!

It was specified that if he came was as a Backup and nothing else. The guy is just that!

if he was a 3rd round pick and the Cardinals didn't even extend the lowest tender, it seriously makes me doubt that he is any good....and I thought he was. I know he was a really good player for Al Groh (Parcells disciple) at Virginia and I was intrigued that he was available.

But the Cards would have only needed to tender like 800k or so to receive 3rd compensation and they passed?

May I remind you that Pace is only one season removed from being a nobody

dude hes a no body.

He has one good season under his belt and look what he got. Blackstock is two years younger and could have the same breakout opportunity if given it. He will come with a slightly lower payday as well.

Lee2000 ps. there is a UVA connection there between Parcells and Groh.

Prior to the 07' season, the same thing was being said about Calvin Pace. Heck, there was even some talk he may be out of the league if he didn't produce. He had a good season last season, which skyrocketed his value.

I wanted Pace on this team, I think he has a lot of upside? $22 million of upside? Heck NO! I was hoping hey could get him with $13-16 million of guaranteed money. I never though anyone would ever meet his asking price. The Jets overpaid and if he last year was a fluke(which it could have been), this deal really hurts the Jets.

Blackstock had a decent season backing up Pace, and he will come alot cheaper. He, like Pace, could end up being nothing more then average players in their new homes. Though if Pace fails, the Jets will feel a major ripple. If Blackstock fails, nothing bad really happens. If Blackstock succeeds, wow, what great value.

I think there are other variables involved here.

He lost the competition to Pace. The Cardinals are strapped for money and the room they do have will play into who they sign to replace Pace (LeBoy). They chose not to committ any more time to him, but that occurs a lot in the NFL. Look at how many ex-dolphins there are in the league. Pace didn't get it either until he was 26. About where this kid is now.

You make this sound like an exact science...

Arent you glad we didn't have the same attitude toward Quenton Moses?
