Autographs weren't enough for many Eagles fans. Many wanted him to play early last season, instead of a struggling McNabb. They let him know. On his radio show. For two hours a week.

"We eat our own sometimes in Philly," says WIP's Anthony Gargano, A.J.'s co-host.

A.J. wouldn't bite as callers chewed up McNabb.

"He handled it like a gentleman, with so much maturity," Gargano says. "He just kept saying, `Donovan's the guy, he's going to lead us to win.'"

Derek Boyko, the Eagles' public relations director, has seen that same unusual maturity in the way the guy teammates call "Ace" markets himself, helps the community and engages the media. After the trade news leaked, A.J. stunned Boyko by saying he wants to return for a news conference in Philadelphia after he does one in South Florida, just to thank Eagles fans.

"He's adamant about doing it," Boyko says.

Hopefully all AJ has to say about Fiedler is how well Fiedler collects his jock strap for the laundry after games.
