Dolphins | Team could wait until June to grab Harrington
Sun, 30 Apr 2006 23:26:51 -0700
Jeff Darlington, of the Palm Beach Post, reports the <A href="http://www.kffl.com/team/22/nfl">Miami Dolphins could wait until June to acquire Detroit Lions QB Joey Harrington. After the Denver Broncos and the Kansas City Chiefs drafted quarterbacks in the first-day of the NFL Draft, the Lions no longer have any other suitors for Harrington outside of the Dolphins. The Lions could file a grievance since the Dolphins have worked out a two-year deal with Harrington, but Dolphins head coach Nick Saban said the team didn't break any rules since the Lions gave Harrington permission to help arrange a trade. The Dolphins could wait until the Lions release Harrington to avoid paying him a $4 million bonus. The Dolphins could acquire Harrington faster if they offer a late-round 2007 pick, but a source said the team has no problem waiting until June.

Millen is just upset becaue on this deal among others it is showing that he is inept at his job, and is not qualified for his position

Harrington really hosed up Millen in this whole deal. By stating that he will not agree to any deal other than that with Miami, Detroit has absolutely no leverage. No team is going to do a straight up trade with Detroit because of Harrington's contract, but Harrington's not going to redo his contract except for a deal with Miami. I love it!

I'm also really glad to see that Saban didn't blink in the tactics that Millen tried with Cleveland on draft day. Saban stood firm on what was being offered and didn't up the ante.

I even think that they can pull the trade offer off the table now and wait until he is released. If Harrington is solid on his statement that he'll go nowhere else, then we wouldn't even have to trade a pick for him. Wait until he gets released and then sign him to the contract that they've already agreed on.

Lions Front Office doesn't have a leg to stand on?

What does everyone think of the likelihood of the Lions being able to successfully lodge a complaint with the league office. I'm sure Matt Millen is hoping he'll get a compensatory pick (he'll at least ask for a 5th rounder, probably as high as the Browns offered for Harrington, if not higher). Even so, it doesn't seemed like he has a chance of success. He made his bed in this case, and now he has to lie in it. Apparently he felt that facilitating a trade didn't mean working out a verbal committment for a contract restructuring, but I doubt the league will feel that way. What do you think?

I beginning to think Harrington working both the Lions and the Phins. By declaring only the Phins hes tied the Lions hands and at the same time hes almost guaranteed an easy opt-out contract with the Phins.

Just thinking outloud.

Interesting angle. But, I don't think it is in his best interest to be working us. Because if he is, then he's probably not going to sign a contract with us. And if he doesn't, where else would he sign? Considering what teams would then know about him, he probably wouldn't receive a contract offer as good as what he has worked out with us.

Analyze Dolphins liability with the NFL for Harrington deal?

A previous thread of mine was merged into an unrelated thread. Apparently I was not specific enough.

What does everyone think of the Lions chance of successfully appealing to the NFL with allegations that the Dolphins tampered in their negotiations with Harrington? Will they succeed? If they do, what will the punishment be?

I suspect they don't have a leg to stand on and this will be dismissed out right. Hey, the league office owes us one after all.

[admin]Your thread was merged with an article that includes reference to what your asking about. And this one will be merged also. If you start another thread about the same subject, there will be penalty enforced.[/admin]

Are you saying the Lions are filing a grievance against us for tampering?!?

Edit: Opps, my Bad. I see the info in another thread. To answer your question...no way. The Lions gave Harrington the approval to shop around. Once Miami decided they wanted him, how could there be a violation if they talked to his agent?

I think millen is ridiculous he gave harrington permission to talk to the phins and then millen found out that harrington and miami meshed out well and both miami and harrington fel in love with each other, because of that Harrington doesnt want to play anywhere else, so now millen aint happy because Harrington doesnt want to play for a sub-par team. Millen is pissed and thinks that he can file a grievance to the league...

Message to ford Family: either be happy that detroit didnt pick another WR in the first or fire Matt "loser" Millen

They are threatening

to file such a grievance, yes. I don't think they have any way of proving that, considering they gave Harrington permission to facilitate a trade. What do you think?

the lions are entertaining filing a grevance

but they wont get anything out of us because the Nicktator own Matt "sorry ***" millen

Millen and the Harrington deal is looking more and more like he set himself up for a Seattle/Hutchinson blunder.

Millen is an idiot, and in a month will pay double for his greed over Harrington. Way not to blink Coach Saban! I sure hope the Lions keep Millen, so they'll stay prerrenial basement dwellers. Easy fodder for us on Thanksgiving (thanks Lord for letting us play the Lions that day!)

In Saban We Trust!

Millen is clearly pouting like a little school girl!

All he has for leverage is trying to scare the Fins into giving a better pick and the Lions drop the whole thing.

Saban and Mueller need to withdraw the 6th and offer a 7th in 08. Nahhh! Give them nothing and sign him in June after Harrington nixes all other deals and is released.

This guy is the biggest idiot in the game. I swear that every single member of this board could run the Lions better than that stumbling/blunder
