The media have been making too big a deal out of Brandon Frye being the starting RG during the times they have been allowed in to see practice. Sparano made it clear that the three guys Frye, Murphy and Ndukwe were all getting equal time with the first string and it was just a trick of the timing that it was always Frye's turn when the media were allowed in. Now Murphy is taking first team reps and it's supposed to be like some major development.
It's not.
Anywho, more of the same if you follow the links. Eric Green still with the first team at CB. That's still a rotation I believe, as well...but I don't think it's an equal rotation like the RG position. I think it's mostly Eric Green with some Vontae and Sean mixed in.
There seems to be a confirmation that Orion Martin is at ILB to stay. Ernest Wilford still working with the TEs. Alleman, Martin and Thomas still the injury sit-outs. Patrick Turner still looking decent. Pat White still struggling early and turning it up a bit by the end of practice (becoming an MO). Anthony Armstrong continuing to impress.
New developments would include Murphy getting whipped pretty good by Randy Starks, and the curious half-speed practice of Ronnie Brown combined with the note that by the time the media got there Ronnie was already covered in sweat and tired unlike everyone else. He participated in all of the individual drills.
I think it means that they worked on a lot of Wildcat before the media was allowed in. I remember hearing the players talk about that first Wednesday practice prior to Week 3 where they installed the package and Ronnie and Ricky said that they were run ragged in that practice, Ricky said he's never been so tired after a practice in his whole career. There's another note that says all of the RBs, not just Ricky, are practicing taking the hand-offs from Ricky's spot in the Wildcat...so that's probably why Ricky wasn't tired. But this could be an indication that Ronnie is the only one being trusted thus far to take the snap as QB in the Wildcat...and I'm guessing they worked a lot of Wildcat before the media got there and this is why Ronnie looks beat and was allowed to take some time off.
The mini camp highlight film is up on Aquavision. Nothing really interesting there.
The updates should keep flowing though so we can talk about them in this thread as they come through...
Another interesting thing was Jason Ferguson saying that if they don't ask him back then he'll probably just retire because he doesn't want to start over with another team. I've said before that he's here for them as long as they want him to be...he's in the tank for them. He'll give them no trouble on a new contract if they don't have a better option when the time comes. This is a big part of the reason for not drafting a NT this year, as I thought they wouldn't.
Evidently Paul Soliai had a good practice and said that once the OTAs are done he will focus hard on getting down to target weight by training camp. He doesn't seem to think it will be difficult, said it's just a matter of being disciplined. Again I believe the issue was way overblown by some people.
