Hey Phins fans... got some more info for you.
I'll just cut and quote what I put on my board:

Okay, I just got off the phone with someone from Eden Prarie and this is the situation:

After news broke late last night of the Bulger package, two teams that had previously displayed interest in Culpepper contacted the Vikings with deals that were significantly more attractive than what they had previously offered.

One of those teams is definitely Oakland, who seems to want Culpepper pretty badly. The other team is a mystery, as the guy I was speaking to refused to reveal the identity, even off the record (which is bizarre). Usually they will at least offer something off the record.

The second person I spoke with basically confirmed what the source out of Minnesota said, and also seemed to know about the other offer, but played it just as cool.

The only thing I can assume at this point is that team #2 has made it EXPLICITLY clear that they do not want their identity leaked at this point in time, because they don't want to show their hand to the rest of the league. I am assuming that it is a team that has something to lose either in free agency or the draft if other teams knew they were interested in a QB...

That said though, the second source did reveal something that our friend in Eden Prarie wouldn't; he told me that it was an AFC team....
So my gues is Miami. However that is JUST A GUESS. I have no proof of that whatsoever.

It woulkd make sense to some degree, however Miami shouldn't care about who knows that they are interested in Culpepper, because A.) they've flashed interest in the past and B.) They pick #16 int he draft and have nothing to lose by showing this hand...
Like I said, Miami is just a guess.

Another option could be Baltimore.

Stay tuned. Ted and I are working the phones hard for you on this one.

So obviously, nothing confrmed yet... but I have to believe the other team is you. Just don't understand why the #2 team is so hush-hush..

Hope it helps. I'll try to keep you guys updated as I keep my site updated.

i find no purpose to speculating on this anymore. the only thing that will come out of it is disappointment.

the second team is NOT us...everyone knows we want a QB....it could be a sleeper team that might be trying to bench/replace their qb

That would be Saban's policy, to be hush hush.

thanks, hope you are right on your guess about Miami:D

We'd be hush-hush because Brees is coming for a free agent visit and we don't want to hamper negotiations with him. It wouldn't surprise me if we were trying to extend out the Culpepper thing until after we know where Brees sits.

Because that is Saban's way. He is like a CIA officer.
The fact that it is so secret makes me believe it is us because I cannot think of someone else besides NE that is so secretive.

Thanks. I can only think of two reasons why Miami would withhold their identity--Saban's normal penchant for secrecy, or they're negotiating for both Brees and Culpepper and don't want either one to get leverage on them by knowing the terms of the offer to the other.

Trust in Saban!

thanks.

would you care to tell us your site?

yeh sorry... it's http://vikingsboard.net

First source on Oakland is a very legitimate guy. He's been spot on in the past, and is very close with Scott Studwell who was previously the Vikings player personnel guy before Foley got there. I trust everything he says with almost 100% certainty.

That makes a lot of sense! Good point.

Thanks alot for the info man, I really apreciate it. I would be shocked to learn that the second team would not be Miami. Miami just makes too much sence.

Don't want to get into a bidding war with the Rams. Bulger and a mid rd pick would be hard to top. I don't want to give up a 1st day pick for DC.

after the ricky williams thing leaked, i wouldnt be surprised if saban was cursing the media and wanting to be as secretive as possible.

it makes sense actually. if we found out the saints outbid us for brees, we'd go after the next guy asap. but since brees is still a possability, we keep hush hush about it
