ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Josh McCown "definitely" will be Miami's No. 2 quarterback in 2008. John Beck will compete with someone else to start.
It initially seemed like McCown signed to be a placeholder, but Mort indicates that Dolphins management is as high on Beck as they let on this winter. It's a good thing, because McCown belongs on the bench. The Dolphins now seem very likely to use a top three round pick on a quarterback this April.

not that beck is #1 but the other stuff.
 
i don't get it. why would Josh sign to be the back up before the season started? you would think he would what to have a chance to start...
 
awesome, i wonder if the fins wll sign another qb or draft one?
 
I don't know, it doesn't make much sense. Beck competing with a rookie for the starting job when you have a young Vet on the bench? Makes no sense.
McCown was on Sirius yesterday and he was told its an open competition for QB.
I guess Mort would know better than anyone considering he probably talks to BP, but its still strange.

Henne is my thought
 
He will compete with Ryan, Flacco or Henne.

Let's not make this more than it is. Were talking about the depth chart in March. Whatever QBs we have will compete and whoever gives us the best chance to win will start.:rolleyes2:
 
They'll draft another QB, but to say that McCown doesn't have a shot at the starting job is ridiculous. It'll be between Beck and McCown. With this report though, it seems that the Dolphins want too see Beck become the starting quarterback. He'll have to earn it, but at least they are high on him as intially reported.

I'm sure he'll get his chance if he's good enough during preseason but i think what Mort is saying is that the Dolphins intentions were for him to be a backup,meaning that they didn't sign him to replace Beck.
 
i would take henne if the fins drafted a qb or flacco or woodson
