Moore confident in receivers: While fans are wringing their hands over the Dolphins' inability to sign a No. 1 receiver, former Miami receiving great Nat Moore said the current unit is fine.
"It's all about chemistry," Moore said before the pro-am. "Look at the Cowboys. What did they win? They've got marquee receivers all over the place. Look at Cincinnati. ... If you don't have chemistry, you don't win."
Moore said that when Ted Ginn Jr. was drafted two years ago, then-coach Cam Cameron called the first-round pick a two-year project. "Wouldn't you say he's ahead of schedule?" Moore said of Ginn, who caught 34 passes for 420 yards and no touchdowns as a rookie, but had 54 for 790 yards and two TDs last season.
"Ted Ginn is an unpolished receiver who's only going to get better. The guy's not dropping the ball, he's learning to run routes where he can get open.''
Moore said Ginn's speed benefits other receivers.
"When Ted Ginn is on the field, the safety is deeper," he said. "When he's not on the field, the safety doesn't have to play as deep. So he's creating space for all those people who are working inside: the tight end, the backs, etc.''
Moore also is wary of targeting a No. 1 receiver.
"What happens when you have a marquee receiver where everybody says, 'That's your guy.''' he said. "What happens if he gets hurt? Then all of a sudden you've got to go to all these guys you never went to before. They say, 'They aren't coming to me, and now all of a sudden I'm the guy?'
"I like the way they change things around. It makes the defenses have to think. It makes game-planning for the Dolphins very, very difficult."
