Moore confident in receivers: While fans are wringing their hands over the Dolphins' inability to sign a No. 1 receiver, former Miami receiving great Nat Moore said the current unit is fine.

"It's all about chemistry," Moore said before the pro-am. "Look at the Cowboys. What did they win? They've got marquee receivers all over the place. Look at Cincinnati. ... If you don't have chemistry, you don't win."

Moore said that when Ted Ginn Jr. was drafted two years ago, then-coach Cam Cameron called the first-round pick a two-year project. "Wouldn't you say he's ahead of schedule?" Moore said of Ginn, who caught 34 passes for 420 yards and no touchdowns as a rookie, but had 54 for 790 yards and two TDs last season.

"Ted Ginn is an unpolished receiver who's only going to get better. The guy's not dropping the ball, he's learning to run routes where he can get open.''

Moore said Ginn's speed benefits other receivers.

"When Ted Ginn is on the field, the safety is deeper," he said. "When he's not on the field, the safety doesn't have to play as deep. So he's creating space for all those people who are working inside: the tight end, the backs, etc.''

Moore also is wary of targeting a No. 1 receiver.

"What happens when you have a marquee receiver where everybody says, 'That's your guy.''' he said. "What happens if he gets hurt? Then all of a sudden you've got to go to all these guys you never went to before. They say, 'They aren't coming to me, and now all of a sudden I'm the guy?'

"I like the way they change things around. It makes the defenses have to think. It makes game-planning for the Dolphins very, very difficult."

He may have something in this statement, what do you guys think?

He has the experience to know what he's talking about. The only reason I said Receiver was a need was because when Camerillo went down and Bess was briefly injured against the Ravens in the Playoffs, we seemed like we couldn't do anything. I pin that on the coaches but it was a bad break, we lost Martin, Camerillo and Bess and they weren't prepared to counter with Ginn, Fasano, London, and Wilford.

Not many others have walked the walk as often or successfully as has Nat. So props to Ginn from someone like Moore resonates exponentially more persuasively than all the combined criticism that routinely gets heaped on Teddy by FH naysayers- for whatever their reasons. It's very encouraging whether or not we end up adding to our WR corps.

The reason this resonated with me is that despite an inexperienced WR corps, pennington passed for 3600 yards...I'm thinking, when you look back, these guys didn't drop many passes. At one point, they had gone a couple of games before the first drop by Fasano. Somehow these guys had to get open, because Pennington doesn't have the strongest arm..so obviously their route running was better than we gave them credit for. What was missing most from the WR's were TD's.. The TE's were pretty good in that area.. The buffalo game taught me that if Pennington can get it out there, Ginn can get behind the secondary.. If Chad could consistently throw a pretty fast 20 in route Ginn can get some good yards..so can Camerillo.. They now have a full year of experience with each other, can they get better..there seems to be a lot of upside to our recieving corps.. even London had some good catches..

That's a pretty good point, just how did Pennington rack up 3600 yards if our receivers are so bad? That said, we do still need to upgrade the spot and I also agree the guy I would love to have is Robiskie. By all counts he is an excellent route runner and has great hands. The big question on him was is he fast enough, well I don't know about you guys but I think 4.51 at the combine is fast enough. Besides, Ginn is the guy to stretch the field and you don't need two of them.

I like our recievers I think they can get the job done. I wouldnt be against drafting a guy I just dont feel that WR is our biggest need. Look how good our undrafted WR's were last season. If Ginn can continue to progress we have a core good enough to win. IMO we need to upgrade the Oline because we didnt run that well last season. With an improved oline the rest of the offense will play that much better.

Nat Moore seals the deal for me.

next ...

a guy like robiskie in the third might be a great choice after reading this
i wouldn't mind getting Robiskie...his dad's a WR Coach for the Falcons,so you know he gives his son pointers and helps him out, that's gotta account for something...

I also think we are fine at WR. The way we spread the ball around on offense, I don't think we really need that "No. 1 receiver". We feed the ball to 3 different WR's, two TE's, and 2-3 RB's. That's what makes us good. We dont need a guy with 100+ catches to be a good passing offense.

Man, that touchdown that London would have had in Denver was such a sweet catch.

Ginn will have a breakout year in '09. Look at the stats, most receivers don't truly break out until their third year and this is the year of Ginn. He will eventually learn to use his speed to his advantage and once he does he will be EXTREMELY dangerous. The only complaint I have about Ginn so far is that he's still obviously scared of taking a hit, most of his drops came in situations where Penny sort of laid him out to dry & Ginn heard footsteps. The good thing is if he can use his speed wisely he wont have to worry about taking hits, at least not from linebackers
