Merged: NFL Europa to cease operations

smart move by goodell,,the move was long overdue,,trying to get other countries to embrace our sport is difficult enough, putting amatuer football players in front of them to accomplish that feat is impossible.

We havnt had NFL Europe here since the Claymores and Monarchs before them. German fans must be going mad right now as well as the Amsterdam fans. Not NFL quality but better than what weve had nonetheless.

Can't say that I'm surprised, but this is big news. Goodell already has made a big impact since becoming commish.

Me and a few more Galaxy fans just heared the press conference about closing.
We was fans from the first day on. Just to bad. I dont think with bringing 1 game over to europe they get more football fans over here. Just this year we had more people ever to come to the games. By the time they bring some games over here the germans dont even think about football anymore.
I go every year to a NFL game of course to Miami) but the atmosphare around the game was much better in Germany.
Dont get me wrong, you all have the best players in the league but I talked to a lot of americans who came to our Galaxy games and they told me that they saw great games and a unbeliveable atmosphare.
You must excuse my english writing, I know it´s not the best.
All I want to say we are very sad of closing this NFLE.

i enjoy nfl europa late at night when im trying to sleep :(

I HOPE this move is only part of the eventual maneuver to add another game to the schedule outside the country for each team.

I'm really interested to see how the NFL is going to handle games outside the country in the future. My biggest concern is fatigue. A team playing outside the country will be much more fatigued for their next game and be at a disadvantage.

I'd like to see some better bye week integration into the plan of teams traveling abroad. We'll see, it's still in it's infancy.

Does this mean that we can expect to see the NFL come to Europe more often. Is that going to be the new International strategy?

I was thinking the same. They must have something cooking, we know the Fins-Giants game will be a success so they must have plans.

Saw this on the RedZone site and didn't see it posted yet.

What does this mean for developmental players in the future??

Actually I do not know what to think

On the one hand I was a Galaxy fan from 1991 on when they fought against orlando Thunder and Raleigh Durham Skyhawks etc
It was aso great to have a chance to meet some Dolphins or former Dolphins, such as EJ Junior who was LB coach for Rhein Fire.

On the other hand the league was ridiculous in the last 3 years or so. Every year they gave you 50 new faces out of 53 (or how many players that team had). There was no team chemistry, you did not know any player, nobody to identify with, WR and QB did not learn how to play together until week 5 etc

Maybe that will help German League (Am FB League in Germany) as the better German players will play in their league again and some spectators will move on

I hope there will still be some sort of developmental league based in the US, if only so we can have some football in the offseason.

Well in the article it says Germany is the strong favourite to get the game awarded in 2008 (I must admit I'm suprised we got the game ahead of them this time). They have already played a game in Mexico which was a success.

I imagine that if there are no major objections from the teams and the games prove to be popular that we will see the addition of a 17th game.
