"Only Cleveland Talked Trade at 2"

According to Saban:

The Dolphins spent time leading up to the pick discussing a possible trade with the Cleveland Browns but were unable to make a deal. No other team showed significant interest in trading up to Miami's slot.

That was the trade I was hoping we'd pull off. We take a 2nd rounder and still get our guy at #3.

Why not make the trade with Cleveland????

it doesn't make sense to me at all.......... If Cleveland wanted Edwards and we were going to pick Brown at #2 anyway then why didn't we trade cleveland our pick for anything, I mean anything at all............Once we swapped picks even if they were just offering a 3rd or 4th rounder in 2006 it would have been better than nothing, AND we still would have got the same player at #3 that we got at #2

We could have taken a 7th rounder and still got our guy a 3!

I know man. If you know you're going with Brown anyway, why not take like a 3rd rounder or less even?

Damn, why couldn't they get it to go? Stupid 15 minutes...

The reason is it sends a message to the rest of the league that you will take less than equal value in trades. Saban plans on being around for a while and doesn't want to be seen as a guy who will buckle in trades and take lesser value.

While I agree it would have been nice to trade down, I think if you have a strong conviction to take a guy, you should probably take him.

Maybe he was fearful Browns would make trade, then trade down to Bucs. Hard to say.

Could have traded picks for nothing and we still would have been better off since the #3 pick will be able to demand $ less than the #2 pick.

Cleveland was low balling us, woulnd't give the 2 or the 3.

If that's the case, screw them. We'll take the better player and be happy.

If we could get them to agree to not select Brown or trade out, why not get what we can get? Hardball for a while, and at the last minute take the #4. It's a free pick.

Or, do you think it would reflect poorly on Saban?

Good point. We could have gotten an additional pick for nothing.

Because we don,t know the whole story. thats why we got Saban to take care of things like this . If Saban do not make the trade , then there was a reason and I,m good with that
