Q: You were good friends with both Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas. Do you feel like the Dolphins are wasting some of their best years?

KC: “When you get 10, 12 years in the league … you don’t know when it’s going to be your last year. When you get past 10 years, you really don’t know. I know for Jason, no matter how much longer he plays, he has to know that he’s played more football than he’s going to play, even if you’re Superman.

“Jason’s on the downside of his career, but he’s still putting up phenomenal numbers. How much longer can you do that? You would really think and hope for them, for their sake  you’d like to see the organization make more of an effort to win while they’re there. You can’t play forever so you really want to make the years count.â€Â

An interesting article to read. The preface to the article let you know that Carter might sound like he's bashing the franchise, but he isn't.

I always liked Kevin, but to say that Tampa is restructuring while Miami is rebuilding is ridiculous. We did bring in Trent Green and Joey Porter to win NOW. And, as Cam has said, the number of vets you bring in doesnt determine whether you're rebuilding or not. Who is to say a rookie wont come in and perform as good or better than a veteran? For instance, Petigout is a pretty good player, but is it a given that he will perform better than Joe Thomas or Joe Staley? For that matter, how about Tony Ugoh or James Marten? Its pretty likely, but not necessarily going to be the case. Then again, someone looking at the age of the acquisitions alone would say, Tampa is retooling while Cleveland is rebuilding.

Kind of a silly way of looking at things, dont ya think? Similarly, Miami could have signed Donte Stallworth and not drafted Teddy. Because of how it worked out, New England retooled and we rebuilt. Same logic, equally stupid.

Good read though.

I met Kevin Carter's dad last year. He is HUGE!!!!!

Kevin Carter wanted to come back, but it was time to go another direction, plus we can't keep our young players waiting too long. I'm all for the youth movement on defense.

I read that this morning. I liked Kevin beforehand, and this just further confirmed my feeling. I just think he's all class (which is quite comforting given recent events). But, I agree too that his evaluation of Tampa vs. Miami is just a wee-bit off.

Carter has sympathy for Taylor, Thomas

Carter sympathizes with former teammates Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas for many of the same reasons he decided to end his two-year stay with the Dolphins.

"When you get 10, 12 years in the league, you don't know when it's going to be your last year," Carter said. "Jason's on the downside of his career, but he's still putting up phenomenal numbers. How much longer can you do that?

I dont get how he isnt bashing JT...Saying JT is on the downside of his career and that its somewhat of a phenom how Taylor is posting these numbers. If he thinks JT is on the downside, I wonder what Carter thinks of himself because Carter cannot come close to the production JT does.

uhmm, it's like saying Thursday and Friday are on the downside of the work week. It's all downhill untill the weekend.

JT is past his mid-career point, there is no more going up. Thus, he is on his downward path for the outro.

I don't see Carter dissing, but I do see a bit of naive in him if he thinks the Bucs are going anywhere.

Naive is a better word...

This is what they say year in and year out, people keep waiting for him to decline and it never happens. People are going to keep waiting for at least 3 more years

1. I did say naive.

2. Carter IS NOT referring to JT's performance, but rather the CYCLE OF A CAREER. Where, in fact, he is on the downward path. Just like right now, the F-15 is on the downward path of it's career where the F-22 will replace all of them soon. Doesn't mean the F-15 can't perform.
