Penalties League Wide

Just seen a stat that this year penalties are at a all time high league wide, by like thirty percent, watching the bills game and there is already 15 flags in that game, these games are getting harder to watch, no flow to them, and there are too much grey area with the refs, lets them not be consistent

Yeah there are more penalties this year than any year since 1970 I believe....the refs are flag happy and unfortunatey we lead the league in penalties.

it's not the refs fault. if anything the NFL (as well as every other sports league) wants penalties cut down considerably

It is unfortunate, but I don't totally blame the refs. Some calls are pretty lame, but all teams are making stupid mistakes.

I think the NFL and the refs have made it very clear that they are going to play a role in any outcome of a game this season. The refs have so much more control of game than you relaize. They are playing a key role in the outcomes of games...and somehow, I don't think the NFL brass cares.

This is the new NFL......every key game now will somehow involve a controversial call or penalty.....every key play you see out there you need to reserve judgement becasue somehow there is usually a ref "call" on it.

My problem with the refs is consistencey. So many times they will flag something that goes on all game and then all the sudden they call it a penalty. I think that is what has many players and coaches, as well as fans frustrated. I thought Chambers holding call was BS on Welkers nice RAC down the sideline. You see blocks like that and worse every time there is a run. Just an example of the kind of penalty that gets me "upset" with the refs.

I just cant take how envolved they are with everything, i look for a flag after every play that is horrible, i cant remember a season when it did that, it just makes the games really suck win or lose, there is no flow or momenetum anymore

I think that it has to be that the league is doing a poor job of defining the parameters of penalty calls for the refs. When a problem is in one game, that's a performance issue; when it's across the league, it's an issue of bad management/direction.

Refs make mistakes, but just like any of us, I'm sure they don't set out in the morning with the goal of sucking as bad as they can. It has to be that they are being given too much gray, not enough black and white.

Anybody see the Falcons game? They missed a 41 yard game winning fg and the refs called holding on the defense and gave them another shot at a 36 yarder.

The penalties are taking too much away from game. There are too many interruptions .The NFL is taking a risk that the game will become boring.

Have you ever wondered how an entire game can be reduced to a half hour show if you take away the huddles and dead time and without editing out any of the plays.?

Well thats what the NFL Superfan shortcuts do.Out of a 3-4 hr game there is only half an hours worth of action.

Food for thought.

man those superfan things are a good idea, but it feels pretty weird watching a game in half an hour

They are great.Cuts out the crap.

meh i can't just watch pure plays. i like seeing replays of the whole field and such. just get rid of the commercials and timeouts and all of that

Funny thing.. right before kickoff I said to my buddies.. I bet we get a flag on the first posession (which was tampas)...and we DID!

watching the espn game thats on right now they threw a flag on the first posession (they ended up retracting it though)

darn flags are slowing the game down.. and they were worried about replays slowing things down.

I know some are called for but perhaps they have made the rules so complicated now that its becoming rediculous

6 flags in less than a minute of the espn game
