Damion McIntosh to test free agency

The Sun-Sentinel reports that Damion McIntosh's agent said he expects his client to test the free-agent market. In a free agent pool lacking in offensive tackle quality, I would expect McIntosh to be signed quickly by another team. I think this would be a big loss for the team, since although McIntosh is by no means a superstar he stepped up his game and had his best season last year. He would add some much needed stability to Miami's O-line. L.J. Shelton was a disaster at LT last season, so this may be the opportunity for Anthony Alabi to step into a starting role. If he is not ready and the team is not comfortable with Shelton at LT, then they will have to look to the draft. I wrote more about this situation at my blog. Check it out. Let me know what you think.

hmm this makes things interesting.

That is a big shame. Our LT spot is hardly decent without D-Mac. D-Mac's not a good LT but he's decent. At least he's better than Shelton and Davis. Plus he knows Houck and Cameron so that's a plus. If we draft a LT, I'd like to have him around to man the fort for a while. Plus, he's great versatile depth too.

People crack me up with the "Shelton was a disaster at LT" nonsense. He was not. He was actually moved inside because of his superior "runblocking" skills compared to DMac's who was a "disaster at RG". I've watched the early Culpepper games over and over and realized that Shelton wasnt the one struggling. The rightside of the OLine was struggling when DC was at QB, not the left. Nevertheless, we shall see who ends up "back at LT"...

I mean, can't people read between MIA's lines with the letting go of DMac and the interest in RG Kris Dielman? Obviously, they are planning on moving Shelton back to his "natural" position. Dielman will replace him at RG and he will go back to LT and Alabi will back him up.

Levi Brown is "not" going to be drafted by MIA. Period. I expect MIA to pick Laron Landry and either move Jason Allen to CB or move Hill to dimeback.

You make a good point about the possible Dielman acquisition, but it must be remembered that until he actually signs with the Dolphins, we have to think about the guys we currently have. There are plenty of other teams out there with more spending cash for free agents and it is possible that Dielman goes elsewhere. I agree with you that if we are lucky enough to land Dielman, then that would open the way for Shelton to move back to LT.

As for the draft, I think its a bit premature to rule out the drafting of anyone. Levi Brown may be unlikely at the number 9 spot, but I certainly don't think he can be so easily dismissed altogether, especially at this early stage.

yea i think it will be LJ at LT, Dielman at LG, Hadnot, Fonoti or maybe toledo or vis versa meaning Hadnot at RG and toledo C and carey RT.

when DC sucked with sacks, Anderson was in at RG and just breaking the entire line down himself along with James. they both stunk it up at first till andreson got injured and idnt play nemore thankfully sad to say.

McIntosh is a fat, out of shape guy, who at his best, is average. He can walk. He is not worth a lot of $$$ and any team that pays him top dollar is nothing short of desperate.

For the sake of argument, the article points out that McIntosh weighs 330 pounds after losing 20 pounds during off-season workouts.

Also, even if McIntosh is 'average' as you say, who on Miami's roster or in free agency is an upgrade over that level of play? I certainly don't think Leonard Davis has shown that he is any better than McIntosh has been. On the roster, the only real options are Shelton and Alibi. Shelton didn't pan out at LT last season and Alibi is unknown. I'm not proposing that Miami should overpay for him, but I do think that he is better than any replacement Miami can hope of getting, unless they draft a top-end LT. In addition, any replacement necessarily means another shake-up in the OL lineup. If that replacement isn't significantly better than Damion, is it worth it to sacrifice the cohesiveness that he would bring?

Yes, this is true. But we will be $23mil under the cap as soon as we release the four players reported to being let go by friday. carter and harrington alone will clear $8mil and mckinney and anderson will clear $5.5mil. that's $13.5mil on top of the $10mil we currently have after the holiday signing.

So I wouldnt say we dont have enough money to sign a player already familiar with cam cameron...

 ...you noticed that too?

Well if D-Mac is gone then we can pick up Zimmerman from the Rams, they just cut him.:D I know he is too old, but you never know.
