Jason Cole, of the Miami Herald, reports Miami Dolphins RB Ricky Williams has reached an agreement on a one-year deal with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League and the deal is expected to be announced later this afternoon, agent Leigh Steinberg said Sunday, May 28. ''We got permission (from the NFL),'' said Steinberg, who was in Toronto with Williams most of this week. Williams had spent the past week in the city assessing the chances of playing there and meeting with team officials. The deal was worked out after the CFL essentially voided the option year that is included in most CFL contracts. In addition, Steinberg said he and Williams gave the Dolphins a ''promise'' that he would return to the NFL as soon as he could Earlier this month, head coach Nick Saban said Williams had nothing to prove by playing in the CFL. However, the Dolphins did give Williams the freedom to pursue his needs. ''The concerns of the Dolphins organization are real ones and the willingness of coach Saban and the organization to take this step in light of those concerns reflects the classy nature of the team,'' Steinberg said.
