Wasn't Rodrique Wright supposed to be a late 1st-2nd round DT out of Texas that we ended up getting as an UFA because of his injury? I watched him play in college and he really impressed me. Is he coming back to play in 07?

Yes, that's the guy.

I certainly hope he'll be back. I seem to recall that he probably would have been able to play/practice late in the season but they put him on the IR early because they knew even if he could start playing, he wouldn't be worth the roster spot to get him up to speed as a rookie.

I'm hoping he'll be a force ASAP.

7th round pick, tremendous upside, supposedly dropped because of a torn shoulder (which he didn't know he had) and some scouts said he took some plays off.

Yes, he was projected to be a 1st rounder. Til injuries set in.

When he gets healthy, we will see some domination from this guy. He was a beast at Texas.

His stock started to drop late in his senior season, as scouts started to notice that he took a lot of plays off. He's strong and quick enough to blow up the middle of the line if the coaches can keep a fire lit under him. The rotator cuff injury knocked him off a lot of teams' draft boards.

Injured Reserve

Does anyone know how the NFL Injured reserve system works? The reason why I ask is that I just saw a recent thread on Rodrique Wright. This past season he as basically "Stashed" on IR to let him heal, not take up a roster spot, practice & learn, and most of all not let another team grab him in the process. This seems to be an NFL "Red Shirt" program similar to college.

BUT, is there an impact to the team? My questions are:

1. Is the player paid his full salary if placed on IR?
2. If a player is put on IR does it count as an accrued season? Will this be one less season we can have Rod Wright?
3. What is the salary cap hit for a player put on IR? Is it pro-rated or does the team take a full cap hit?

All you rules guru's please weigh in and enlighten us all!

Thanks!

this guy could be one of te biggest draft steals ever. he has the potential its just willhe get thechance to play and will he show up all te time.

This guy was a beast in college-beat the crap out of the exercise bike last season though-Hope to see him and Manny, Roth, Vickerson, and/or Fred Evans make liars out of all the analysts making DL age our number one problem and draft priority-JT still has a lot of good football in him and especially Roth seems to have turned the corner-I personally think linebacker depth will hurt our D next year-of course the secondary...losing Will Poole 2 years in a row killed us-hope J SAllen steps up-damn, lot of hoping-in a word DRAFT OFFENSE-wait thats 2 words

SWEET AVATAR!!!!!!:cooldude:

the players salary count when they are on IR against the cap its as if they were stil playing all it does is allow for them to open the roster spot to brign in another player.

If memory serves, Wright was the guy who stuffed Lendale White on the 4th and 1 late in the game during the USC-Texas title tilt a couple years ago. After Wright stuffed White, Vince Young led the final drive to win the game.

It was a huge play at a huge time in a big game!!

I'm hoping this is the type of player we got w/ Wright. It'll help make up for some of our draft blunders the past few years if this guy turns out to be a stud!

This a Salary Cap subject, which would have generated more answers on that board.

Injured Reserve has IR, IR/NFI (Non Football Injury) and a minor IR.

On August 29, 2006 Rodrique Wright was placed on "Reserve/NFI."

http://www.miamidolphins.com/newsite/news/top_story.asp?contentID=4692&lid=4692

On I.R. players earn an Accrued Season but not a Credited Season, which is for Salary purposes only.

If the player is on full IR they are paid. If on the NFI list they are not entitled to be paid but can be paid if the Club so decides. When on IR players can be paid full salary or if they signed a split contract, which has a lower minimum salary requirement per earned Credited Season, will be paid less.

The Salary Cap impact depends on what the player is paid whether it is full salary, the lesser split contract amount an injury settlement or nothing. If a signing bonus is involved the regular rules apply: Regular pro-ration or the acceleration rules if the player is released.

I want all that and Amobi Okoye...a manchild that along with Evans and the Wright brothers will make us forget kevin Carter,Big Daddy, and the tractor, while dropping the cap number and building with youth in one fine motion. That will drop the average age of the team by 20% in one whack, building with youth that has more speed, energy and staying power that gets you to, through the playoffs to the big game.
