Avril was a 4rd round pick of the Lions in 2008 out of Purdue. He is 24 years old. He measured 6'3" 253 pounds at the combine in 2008. He ran a 4.6 in the 40 yard dash, did 27 reps on bench press, had 34 3/4" arms, 9 3/4" hands. He is a weakside linebacker who is intense and can chase sideline to sideline according to scouting reports. Very productive at Purdue. Very good athlete. A quick twitch player with good use of hands. Highly competitive with a great motor. Stays on his feet. Explosive first step quickness and quick to read and react. Has explosive upfield burst to get to the QB or stop a running play. Had 30 tackles for loss his final 2 years in college.
 
the problem with Avril in Detroit is they tried to make him a WLB in a Tampa 2 under Marinelli (didn't work). Schwartz moved him back to DE and he played well, but he's best suited for a 3-4.
 
Worth a 5th rounder. Good move by the FO.

He was a 3rd round pick (92nd overall) in the 2008 draft
 
just seems this draft is loaded with olb's.a lotta talent in the 2nd/3rd/4th.
