The Supplemental NFL draft happens this Thursday starting at 1:00PM. Last year I believe they did not have one, but this year they have a few prospects that declared for it.

Here are the players available:

Texas Tech DE McKinner Dixon
Kansas State WR Deon Murphy
Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon
Florida State WR Corey Surrency
Central Michigan OT Joe McMahon
Southern Mississippi WR Torris Magee
Western Kentucky LB Blake Boyd
Tennessee DB Demetrice Morley

Players like Dixon, Surrency, McMahon, Magee, Boyd and Morley are not expected to be drafted and will be available via free agency later that day.

Murphy is rumored to be possibly a 6th or 7th round pick, while Jarmon could go as high as the third round. Obviously all these guys have some sort of red flag, otherwise they would be playing college football this year and not trying this last ditch effort to make the NFL.

Players in the supplemental draft usually do not pan out, or go on to have just average NFL careers. Though there have been a few players that have had good to great NFL careers, such as Bernie Kosar, Cris Carter, Jamal Williams and Mike Wahle.

Most will remember that Nick Saban spent a 5th round pick in the 2005 supplemental draft on DT Manuel Wright. We all know how bad that turned out.

For those who do not fully understand the supplemental draft rules, this is the basics:

1. This draft is done via e-mail and not like the April NFL draft.

2. Before the draft, the team e-mails the league what round they would like to spend on a player. If a team does not want to draft anybody, they do not have to send the e-mail or even participate in the draft.

Lets say Miami sends an e-mail saying they would like to spend a 4th round pick on Jeremy Jarmon and the Eagles say they would like to spend a 3rd round pick on Jarmon. The Eagles would be awarded Jarmon and will be forced to forfeit a 3rd round pick in the 2010 draft. Miami would not have to give up anything since they did not get the player.

Miami currently has 9 draft picks in the 2010 draft:

1st round
2nd round
3rd round
4th round
5th round
6th round
6th round (From Washington)
7th round
7th round (From Kansas City)

Is there anybody on the list you think Miami should even consider forfeiting a 2010 pick for? If so, which player and how high of a round would you give? Is there anybody worth taking a chance on if they go undrafted?

I have seen Jarmon play and I say that a 4th rd. pick would be about where I would put him. The only other player that I have seen is Surrency and I would not waste a pick on him. So I am going with Jarmon in the 4th.:D

I gotta say thanks for the info on the supplemental draft. It was always a mystery to me how it works.

The last player I remember making it from the supplemental was Jared Gaiter of the Ravens (T from Maryland.) I believe he was their starting tackle last year. Ravens spent a 5th rounder on him.

I think you're right. Gaither was pretty good for Baltimore last year - makes me wonder what they'll do with him and Oher. As far as I know they still have Willie Anderson as well.

I've seen Jarmon play, he's got a good motor, but I wouldn't spend anything more than a 7th on anyone of the players eligible.

actually overall Supp picks pan out pretty similar to actual picks. They just are under more microscope. lately though there has not been much success.

I still agree with taking Manny Wright in the 5th though. It did not work out but it was a smart risk. I wish we had taken Jared Gaither a while back.

The DE from Kentucky may be an NFL player from all acounts but not sure we need a DE.

Morely or Surrency would be solid risks probably as signings after the draft.
Morely was the number one cb recruit out of high school. He is a good football player but has issues. Hell we took JD QUINN who is a scumbag that cannot stop driving drunk and enadangering peoples lives so I have no problem with a low risk contract on Morely.

We traded our our last pick in this years draft to KC for their 7th round pick in next years draft.

Jarmon was ruled ineligible by the NCAA for taking a banned substance, much like Calvin Pace.
Kentucky Wildcats defensive end Jeremy Jarmon was ruled ineligible for his senior season by the NCAA because of a failed drug test.
He said at a news conference Saturday he had inadvertently taken a banned substance that turned up positive during a random NCAA test in February. An appeal was denied, in effect ending his college football career.

Jarmon did not identify the substance and took no questions.

Jarmon took the supplement while recovering from a shoulder injury and was not taking part in activities. He had been taking the supplement for 15 days before checking with the training staff, who told him to stop taking it.

"But it was too late," Jarmon said, reading from a prepared statement.
Jarmon said his goal in the offseason was to become leaner. He bought a dietary supplement while shopping for vitamins on the recommendation of a worker at a nutrition store, not knowing that it contained a banned substance.

"I do not need to cheat to be successful," he said.

Jarmon has the third-most sacks in Kentucky history. He was an honorable mention on last season's AP All-Southeastern Conference Team. He already has earned his bachelor's degree in political science, and coach Rich Brooks said in a statement that Jarmon wanted to address the incident in public and "apologize and explain."

Jarmon's Pro Day
Kentucky defensive end Jeremy Jarmon, who performed well enough during his Thursday pro day-style session for representatives from 22 league franchises, also will receive strong consideration. Jarmon was listed at 6-feet-3 1/8 and 278 pounds for the workout and timed in the 40-yard dash at between 4.75 and 4.84 seconds.

We could pick up an undrafted guy. I don't think Miami will use one of it's picks.
Joe McMahon has played RG, OC and OT during his one full year and Central Michigan. However academic struggles forced him to forego his final year of eligibility.

He is also a former two-time Chicago Golden Gloves boxing champion.

I could see that guy being worth a seventh round flyer. What's the harm?
