Texans | Team exercises Carr's option; move not expected to impact NFL Draft selection
Thu, 9 Feb 2006 19:09:20 -0800

John McClain, of the Houston Chronicle, reports the Houston Texans exercised the $8 million option that extends QB David Carr's contract through the 2008 season, according to a source close to the team. A formal announcement is expected Friday, Feb. 10. Carr's extension calls for the $8 million bonus and base salaries of $5.25 million this year, $5.5 million in 2007 and $6 million in 2008. The decision to extend Carr's contract has nothing to do with the top pick in the draft. The Texans still haven't decided if they'll select University of Texas QB Vince Young or Southern California RB Reggie Bush. The Texans also haven't ruled out the possibility of trading down.

If they exercised Carr's option than there is no way they will sign Young...I could see them maybe draftting Young and then trading him away...but I still thinks Bush goes to the Texans with the 1st pick.

I was really hoping to get Carr, but I dont mind him staying in Houston. Im a die-hard Dolphins fan, but the Texans are my second favorite team, and I think they could be real good with an o-line and some secondary help.

Why does that mean no way? As I understood it, signing this option was pretty much gonna happen either way.

They were going to deo this even if they plan on trading him, was what I thought.

Carr is staying in Houston...no longer a Fin option.

The Texans exercised QB David Carr's contract option, keeping him with the team through 2008.
The option is worth $8 million. It is highly unlikely that the Texans will consider drafting Vince Young now, unless they tried to trade Carr. Coach Gary Kubiak believes Houston can win with Carr and we agree. Reggie Bush will likely be a Texan unless Houston trades the pick. Feb. 9 - 10:41 pm et

The Texans are trading down... and drafting D-Brick...

The first thing Kubiak did after accepting was reveal his faith in Carr. He thinks he can revive his career because Carr has all the tools. The Texans will take Bush. Kubiak will find a way to utlize Bush and Davis effectively. He almost had two 1000 yd backs in Denver with Bell and Anderson, I'm sure he'll know what to do with his new backfield.

The Texans are not trading down unless they get an incredible deal, which would most likely require a 1st next year and potentially an additional second and/or third this year. If the Jets are willing to do so, they may be able to grab Bush/Leinart/Young.

I think they'll either draft Bush or trade down to get D'Brick. I wouldn't mind if Saban takes a look at trading up for that pick. It's probably not going to happen, but one can wish.

Not sure Carr was ever an option for us considering the salary he would command.

Looks like Kubiak is trying to instill some confidence back into Mr. Carr by saying he is his guy.......

ntn. one RB wont work wonders wiht that line. Bush is used to running behidn the ebst line in college now he is in the worst line in NFL. u do the math.

don't be surprised if the texans draft young trade carr to us for our 16th pick, and maybe madison. If texans pick young just wait and see when we pick at 16th tagliabue will say{with the 16th pick miami trades to houston for david carr}.... just a srange feeling.
