KC Joyner, who is the NFL equivalent of NBA stats guy John Hollinger, recently wrote this about Jake Grove:

“Amid this year’s free agency frenzy, a trio of centers – long the most underappreciated men on the gridiron- got plenty of love. No, the NFL hasn’t become Bizarro World. These O-Line men Supermen just happen to be worth the dough.... As if last season’s incredible turnaround weren’t reason enough to fear the Fins, the team’s latest acquisition notched a POA winning percentage of 90.6% while allowing backs to gain 6.2 yards per attempt behind his blocks. And Grove didn’t need a lot of help either. The ex Raider went one on one with defenders 67.5% of the time in 2008, far more frequently then either Matt Birk (39.9%) or Jason Brown (60.3%)."

Awesome analysis. Good news! I would be curious to know Samson's numbers.

Everyone is all caught up in the height and weight measures but at the end of the day it comes down to talent and i guess the trifecta thought groves talent was alot higher than satele's.

No, you don't. They will be very bad. Then we will have to read unending posts about that awful Welker trade (a subject that bores me to tears).

Great to see something like this for all the clueless fans who actually think Satele will be better for the Raiders "in their zone scheme" than Grove.

That's fantastic. I was so-so on Groves before but at least if he's healthy we'll have a top of the line center.

Well this is a bit of better news on the Grove trade. Of course if Grove is sitting on the bench half way throuth the season this year on IR and Satele is playing for the Raiders then it is a slam dunk the raiders won the trade. There is NO comparison for not playing the game compared to a guy who is. Lets just hope Parcells and Co can keep this guy healthy then we have something to talk about.

Shows you the talent this guy has if he is on the field. Talent mixed with a nasty side is what you want in an O-Lineman. If this guy can stay healthy I think he will be the best off season pick up by far. Going to be nice to hear our team labeled one of best lines in the NFL.

Wow, I didn't know all that. I knew the guy had talent, and I knew he was very powerful, so he fit the mold. Getting a 3 year pro is always good because there's a lot of learning that linemen must do in their first couple of years, so acquiring a young veteran like Smiley and now Grove is a good way to upgrade quickly

As for his injuries, he didn't start as a rook, which is normal for C's. Then he had a couple of relatively minor injuries but tends ot be available. This looks like an excellent FA pickup and much like the Smiley acquisition. But the one knock on Smiley was even less durability than Grove, and we were all satisfied with Smiley despite his injury problems. I still think we'll go for a power G in the draft ... with my preference being Kraig Urbik if we can snag him in round 3 that would be great.

Satele was a good talented C, he just wasn't as suited to our system as we would have liked. If this hadn't been such a phenomenal year for C's in the draft, I think we would have gotten much more for Samson Satele.

Oh well, great info on Grove ... let's hope he lives up to it.

Grove is simply stronger, tougher, nastier and more physical then Satele. Grove can play well against big physical nose tackles .....unlike Satele.

I was bit skeptical about this signing when I heard he was a "mauler" even though he wasn't much bigger than Satele but this news makes me feel much better about him.

Hope he crushes all Nt and Dts that stand in the way of our offensive juggernaut!
