something good about ronnie...

I just got through watching the past 2 games and i watched all of ronnie browns runs and one positive that i noticed is that he never takes a big hit, he as the nack for moving right as the guy is trying nail him he took a few shots but not big hits, that could be good in the long run. the guy has good footwork for a bigger rb, once he gets his timing down he will be a beast.
and let me tell you this he will break a good long run 20-30yds this week book it.

That'd be sweet if he could. Have we even seen a run over 20 yds yet? (besides the reverse that Chambers should have scored on)

i noticed the same thing about ronnie at the denver game, hes good at contorting his body to avoid taking a direct hit

I hope you are right. I like Brown, but he is missing some cutbacks and is dancing a lot. I think he will be a good back, but it will take a while.

I just finished watching the Jets game, and I agree completely. There is something great about his runs that I can't put my finger on. They look somehow... effortless. He just squirts up the field. Watching him bounce them outside against the Jets when the middle was a mass of green and white, but *not needing to turn the corner* before turning back upfield and ripping off 5-7 yards, I started to feel real good about him.

That is great news, but didnt he get HAMMERED in the preseason against the Bucs when he fumbled?

What few people begin to recognize is while ronnie hasnt done that well in the running department on blocking and running routes hes excelled. Though nobody points it out cause you dont get stats for being great in that

Emmit Smith was like that. Before anyone says anything stupid like a criticism of comparing RB to a hall of famer, I'm not saying he's Emmit. I'm saying that the trait observed by the thread starter is the same one I observed in Emmit many years ago.

He did.

As I remember it, he hit the hole and started to look upfield..... then he got popped. Don't remember who hit him, but either Ryan Nece or Quarles got the ball.

I don't think many backs would have held on. He got popped good. No one should hold that against him.

The one thing I noticed vs. the Jets, is Brown's ability when blocking. You'll have a very good idea this weekend on how sharp he is on passing downs when he has to block Julius Peppers. If Brown can slow up Peppers with any consistency, it'll allow Gus about 2 extra seconds to get the ball out.

I am sure he wasn't drafted fpr his blocking and
catching prowess at #2. He was drafted at #2 because Miami thought he could be at least a 1,200 yd RB.

On the play that Champ Bailey got injured, the Ronnie I watched in college would've gone over the top and burst that thing down field about 45 more yards. It showed the intensity of the NFL as Bailey was too quick and got Ronnie to shed lower and Ronnie only got about 4 on the play.

You are right but these assets are what is going to make him great in the long run. How many times have we heard that the blocking is one of the most difficult things for a rookie to pick up. His pass catching ability is another asset. We need to give him time. 2 games does not make a career.

Too Early To Get Down On Brown

http://www.miamidolphins.com/pressbox/andycohen/andycohen.asp?contentID=4113 - Andy Cohen does it again.

I liked what he said about the NFL season being a marathon, not a sprint. I also liked this quote:

We’ve only known Ronnie Brown for a short time. Saban, on the other hand, has recruited him, scouted him, coached against him and has seen in person or on tape every game Brown played in his college career. There is a reason he chose Brown over Williams. A lot of reasons. Give this a chance to play out. Give Saban the same benefit of the doubt in this area that you’re giving him with the rest of this football team.

I think Ronnie will be just fine. He needs the time to get adjusted to the game speed, used to the offense and develop more timing with the o-line. On that note, once the o-line starts to come together, they will open up more running lanes for Ronnie.
