--------What happens to Muschamp/Smith now: Demotion?

Now that Capers will be the new DC, what happens to Richard Smith/Will Muschamp?

Smith was the "Defensive Coordinator".
Muschamp was the "Asst Head Coach/Def. Asst"

I believe they ran the defense jointly (under Saban's system of course).
I know Saban just wants the best coaching talent possible, but it is nevertheless a demotion for Smith/Muschamp...

Smith: What's his title going to be changed too? Looks like a demotion to me?
Muschamp:I could see his title not changing.....(but his ROLE might change).

Thoughts???

Was muschamp involved with the DB's at all at LSU? If Phillips retires, he takes over Sabans key coaching spot on D probably. Dont really know though. Just a guess. smith can be the assistant DC and assistant HC and assistant playcaller and assistant chalk talk guy.

Well as it was... Saban designed the gameplan. Smith taught it to the players and Muschamp called the plays on gameday with input from saban. Maybe with capers saban can get a little more free time for other parts of the franchise, and maybe some time with his family....

Also Smith and muschamp have great knowledge of the 4-3 but not so much the 3-4. Bringing in capers could be a good mentor for them to further their coaching resumes....

I wouldn't be surprised if Smith gets let go....
I dunno.........I trust Saban.........I know he has a plan already.

I just don't know if Smith knows the plan yet.

Muschamp will stay on, most likely. For some reason, I get the idea, and this is completely intuitive (a/k/a "bullcrap") that Saban is groom Muschamp for an eventual DC position and exposing him to Capers is simply more experience that he'll be able to draw upon.

It wouldn't surprise me that, ultimately, Saban will pass Muschamp along to be HC whenever Saban retires.

Richard Smith will likely be offered a spot which he can accept or turn down.

I think Smith/Edwards (LB coach) get let go and Muschamp takes over at LB's.

I think that's where his fiery presense is needed the most.

Is Muschamp Gone?

Now that Capers was offered the DC job.

Is Muschamp Gone?

Wasnt Muschamp Ticked off he was passed over for the DC job last year. Now that Capers is comming in I wonder if Muschamp will be leaving

Not that I care I think the sharing of the DC job wasnt a good Idea. What did our D rank this year 18 in the NFL :dolphins:

I hope you are right because I worry that he'll get upset. I remember that he (Muschamp) was upset last year when he didn't have a defined role with the team after coming to the Fins. Saban didn't want to make him the defensive coordinator at the time, preferring to give him time (and experience) to adapt to the NFL pace. So now, here we are a year later and Capers becomes the Defensive top dog...

I don't care about their role names as long as both learn from Capers so one of them can step up as DC if Dom leaves

That would probably be Muschamp since he's in his 40s whereas Smith looks like he's alot older. Not sure what his actual age is though. mid-50s?

Yeah what is Muschie's status? Seems like he got passed over.

In my opinion I think that Muschcamp is our DC of the future. I think Saban is grooming him to take over when say Capers gets another head coaching job in the next year or two.

Muschamp can leave if he wants...hes the least expereinced coach on staff really...

Muschamp won't be gone. He was told by Saban when he came here that he'd be on the D staff, not the DC. I don't think he was ticked off about the DC job last year, since he was never promised the job. Smith had experience at this level. Saban's plan for Muschamp is probably down the road a little, perhaps when Dom gets another opportunity...

The D ranked 18th because we had inferior players at the CB and S positions and injuries to our LB corp during the season. It also didn't help that all the players were learning a new D scheme and it did take some adjustment time.
