Any posters on here heard of this guy? He came out of Penn St a few years back, I believe went to TC with the Giants once, but blew his knee out. He has played the last 2 years in the CFL with the Lions here in Vancouver. The guy is freakishly athletic, he was threatening the CFL sack record this past season. He isn't great in space as far as coverage, but his first step is lightning quick, and he's relentless in pursuit. The reason I bring his name up is the local media here in Vancouver reported he had a workout with the Phins recently. Anyone heard this?

He would be an undersized, pass rush specialist in a 4-3 then. It would take alot of work for him to convert to 3-4 olb, but I definitely think hes worth a look. Rumour here was teams were offering him a 500,000 signing bonus, so he would be more than just a body for TC.

From the title I thought you were discussing a post-funeral gathering for our old coach.

Cam Wake, Olympian?

Star defensive lineman could be a top decathlete, says local track aficionado

VANCOUVER - Penn State linebacker Derek Wake shocked the NFL combine in 2005 with a vertical jump of 45½ inches, the second-highest leap ever recorded among the thousands of collegians tested for pro football careers. That shockwave is still being felt today.
In a recent Vancouver Sun article on Wake, now known as Cam Wake, the peerless defensive end of the B.C. Lions, reader Curtis Staples was dumbstruck by the figure of 45½ inches when it was repeated in the story. He believed it must have been a typo.
"Most people are lucky if they can jump 15 inches off the floor," Staples says. "If I bet most people $1 million that they could jump two feet off the floor, in most cases I'd keep my money. But here is Cam Wake, leaping almost four feet off the floor. He can touch a 12-foot ceiling and the guy is 240 pounds. Michael Jordan can't do that."

I hope we sign him, could be a nice little coup

Derek Wake Grade: 3.41 Position: OLB
Class: Sr
School: Penn St.
Conference: Big Ten
Ht., Wt.: 6-2.5, 236
40 Time: 4.71

BIO: Three-year starter used at both linebacker and defensive end. Totaled 58/4/1 as a senior. Posted career numbers of 71/4/8 the previous season. Has one interception to his credit.

POSITIVES: Nice-sized linebacker who hustles to get involved in the action. Strong at the point of attack, packs a wallop and fights to get involved in the play. Takes good angles to the action, defeats blocks and makes plays against the ballcarrier. Disciplined in pass coverage.

NEGATIVES: Not a quick or sudden defender and lacks lateral range. Cannot immediately alter his angle of attack. Marginal skills in coverage.

ANALYSIS: Possessing a solid linebacker build, Wake is a good athlete who gives top effort. Potentially a rush linebacker who stands up over tackle.

PROJECTION: Early Sixth Round
