This comes from Don Banks, Training Camp Primer: Burning question as NFL 2008 kicks off

1. How long until Vinny Testaverde shows up in the Dolphins' camp?

No, no, no.Bill Parcells wouldn't dare try that one again, even if the Tuna does have his well-known affinity for trusting only veteran quarterbacks with the keys to his offense. Besides, the 44-year-old Testaverde announced his retirement this offseason, and everybody knows once a quarterback hangs 'em up, that's the end of the story.

There's no going back. It's finished and done. Well, most of the time, anyway. Unless you get the "itch'' to play again.

No, Miami's next starting quarterback will be the winner of the Josh McCown-John Beck-Chad Henne derby, and I still say Parcells' Dolphins will wind up going against his history and entrusting the No. 1 role to the rookie from Michigan. Henne has a track record of being a quick study, and his offseason work with the Dolphins leaves him well-positioned to lock down the job with a solid preseason showing.

Just another report from a clueless sports writer. Henne will start if both Beck and McCown implode in TC/Preseason. Other than that the odds are slim and none.

I have no favorite in the quarterback competition. I just hope that whoever starts will generate W's. I want my team to win games again.

If Henne were to beat out the other 2 I would be impressed. My gut feeling tells me it's going to end up being Beck, though.

Doesn't matter to me who the winner is as long as it is the best option.

My gut feeling says Beck will be the starter this season, but Henne will be the long term starter under this regime.

does anybody have a break down of how mccowns contract effects our cap each year???

huh...it's better than i thought. $3 mil isn't too bad in 2days nfl. i personally hope he's a 1 year guy but that all depends on how beck or henne develop.

i'm pretty sure that cap # jumps significantly in year 2 if he's around which makes him an easy cut if he doesn't get it done in the offseason.

I have a gut feeling this guy is clueless, however I would say Henne has about as much chance to start the season as Vinny does.

SI.com picks Henne to be starter

SI.com’s Don Banks picks rookie Chad Henne to win the QB job this season.

A couple of observations:
    1. Did Banks see Henne during mini-camp? He shows flashes of arm strength and playmaking, but understandably looks to be a good bit behind Josh McCown and John Beck.
Henne might catch up soon enough, but fans better hope it takes him awhile to outplay McCown, a six-year veteran, and Beck, entering his second year after a grueling off-season. Teams that start 23-year-old rookies not name Dan Marino tend to lose a lot of games.
    2. Banks writes “Parcells’ Dolphins will wind up going against his history” and play the youngest QB..
Parcells did lean on veteran QBs late in his coaching career, but not early.
In his first season with the Giants in 1983, Parcells picked 26-year-old Scott Brunner over 29-year-old Phil Simms.
Parcells started 23-year-old Drew Bledsoe as a rookie in 1993 with the Patriots, instead of 29-year-old Scott Zolak.
Parcells did eventually run a QB geriatric ward with 35-year-old Vinny Testarverde starring for the 1998 Jets and lining up under center six seasons later for the 6-10 Cowboys.

I see McCown as the starter while Henne develops, and Beck as the odd man out- he's simply not their guy. McCown is just this years version of Gus Frerotte /Joey Harrington/ Trent Green- the OK veteran who's clearly not the long term plan, but the placeholder until your QB Of The Future (AJ Feely, Daunte Culpepper, Cleo Lemon, John Beck) develops (or heals in CPep's case).

So I think it'll be McCown as starter, Henne as this years QB Of The Future, and Beck in the Sage Rosenfels role. One of these years we're bound to hit on someone! Just law of frickin averages.

i think beck wins the job.. hes got the drive and inteligence but he needs to show it in preseason... but im a fin nut so who ever wins the job will have my vote.. just pullin for beck alittle ..lol

Henne is there guy LMAO. Well I guess Parmalee is going to start in front of Brown and Williams. Just because they drafted Henne doesn't give him any type of advantage, this is just more reporter nonsense.
