There’s a widespread belief in NFL circles that Jets receiver Laveranues Coles is upset about the decision of the team to trade for
Brett Favre and to abruptly cut Chad Pennington. Indeed, there were rumors on Thursday that Coles had left the team hotel in Cleveland after news broke that Brett was in and Chad was out.
But we’ve yet to hear from Coles. And we’ll have to continue to wait to do so.
“
I just need some time,” Coles told a member of the team’s P.R. staff regarding whether Coles would talk publicly about the situation.
Due to a hamstring injury, Coles didn’t play on Thursday night and didn’t finish practice on Saturday. Rich Cimini of the
New York Daily News offered up this interpretation of Coles’ body language during Saturday’s session: “Toward the end of practice, Coles stood alone on the sideline, away from his teammates — unusual for him. Clearly, something is bugging him.”
