Last April, the Dolphins landed one of the draft's lower-division gems in Hampton's Kendall Langford. Now they are looking for another, and NFL people say they have focused on several intriguing prospects.

On defense, there are at least three such players that Miami not only worked out privately out of town but also brought here for visits: 5-11 cornerbacks Don Carey (Norfolk State) and Greg Toler (St. Pauls in Va.) and University of Western Ontario defensive tackle Vaughn Martin.

I love it. I definitely think CB Don Carey is a guy we're considering in round 5 or 6 ... if he's still there. I don't really know the other two, but I love the fact that Ireland takes a good look at those guys. I know he's looking at WR Johnny Knox, and I think that kid has some real ability to separate, a solid work ethic, and would be a nice late round selection if he lasts that long.

I was high on Kroy Biermann of Montana last year as a converted ILB and I was hoping we'd snag him in round 6 or 7, but Atlanta snatched him in round 5. He contributed and looks like he's sticking with them. They had a great draft last year too btw. I was high on Orlando Scandrick and was also looking for him in the 6th round, but Dallas snagged him earlier too and he outplayed their first round CB. There's some real talent in the lower divisions if the GM is willing to invest the time and effort to really look into them. Fortunately for us, Ireland is one of those "turn over ever stone" type of GM's that is going to find a gem about once a year. :) Langford really worked out, and I can definitely see smoeone like Don Carey or Johnny Knox being a gem for us this year. Honestly, there are quite a few DB's from the small schools this year that have talent, and that tends to be a position where you can get surprises. If a kid is 6'5, 280 lbs and fast, they get scooped up by the bigs, but there are a lot more kids that are 5'10, 170 lbs and fast that get spread throughout all the schools, and when one of them develops physically or blossoms technique-wise, or just plain got overlooked because he wasn't from a marquee high school, then you can really get some gem DB's from those schools.

This is one of the reasons I really like Ireland so much ... he utilizes every avenue of talent acquisition available to him, and he does turn up quality sleepers. :)

Not sure if this is draft or main board, but it seen like good general info for everyone.

don carey is getting looked at by alot of teams and moving up the in the draft....he is a player to watch

The best part of that article is the tidbit about the team calling Michael Johnson to ask about a speeding ticket he had received. I think we're more interested in that guy than most people think. If he falls to #44, I dont think we pass on him.

im a big fan of johnson, i know alot of people on this board aren't, but i think if he is motivated he could be real good, physically he has got alot of tools

Does anybody know anything about Vaughn; like why he left Michigan State?

What kind of character does he have?

What his productivity was like?

vaugh martin was a lowly recruited player out of high school...just talked to my friend at msu and he said the reason martin left mich state was because of grades he believes...at best i believe he is a very big project at defensive tackle...in my opinon the best small school player is cb don carey, who i could see making a similiar first year impact of cb lowery (4th round selection from the jets out of san jose state)

Apparently, we've shown alot of interest in him too, if you read the first paragraph in that article.
