MERGEDX2: Pats tag Cassel

Smart move by the Pats.

Have handled this situation very well.

Nobody will give up that much I don't believe. Although I'm sure they will get at least 1 and then a 3rd or something along those lines. I could see Detroit giveing them the 1st they got from Dallas for him.

god i hope no one gives the pats two firsts for him.....

I think it would be a 1st and 3rd for a franchised player, not 2, 1's. Now If you're thinking 2 teams battle for his sevices and the higher bidder offers 2 1's, then maybe. But Matt Cassel isn't worth that and teams just don't waste their DP like they use to. Look how hard it is to get out of the top 10 of the draft. Teams just don't want to give their picks anymore.

If a team were to sign Cassel with the franchise tag on him they would owe New England two #1's. Thats unlikely to happen though. The last player I can think of that was signed as a franchise player was Joey Galloway. The most likely scenario is the Patriots trading away Cassel and receive compensation that way. I hope it ends up being a first which would give us 2 firsts, 2 seconds, and 2 thirds (expecting a 3rd round compensation pick)

Dont think too many teams are looking for QB's this off-season so the Pats may struggle to un-load him for a 1st rounder.

Actually, I believe a lot of teams will be looking for a QB this off-season.

Obviously Detroit but they've been looking for one for the past 50 years.

Tampa Bay never seems to be satisfied and with their new regime I could see them looking to upgrade.

Carolina might be looking to replace Delhomme.

The Jets will after Favre retires but no way does Cassel end up in New York.

Kansas City needs a QB but I don't see them trading the 3rd pick.

Minnesota is in desperate need of a QB.

San Francisco.

Chicago if they want to move on from the Rex Grossman/Kyle Orton experiments.

I reall can only see Minn. and Chicago giving up much for a QB...The Lions may get into it thinking they can get thenir tackle early and give up the pick they got from Dallas for their QB... I don't think the Jests will have the money to dole out a new contract for Cassell. I don't soee the Chiefs making a serious play for him either.

I was thinking of a restricted FA.

Peed on and tagged in the same week, now that just sounds wrong.
