phillip merling I believe will be one of those guys that can play tackle, end, linebacker... he is fast, big, and plays tenaciouly! Why not play him like merriman? He is just as fast, yet bigger. Move him around, keep the defense guessing. Most of all, make sure the best talent is out on the football field.

D.e. Vonnie Holliday, Merling, Rod Wright
N.t. Ferguson, Randy Starks, Paul Soliai
D.e./ D.t. Langford, Randy Starks
O.L.b/de Philip Merling, Matt Roth, Moses
I.L.b Channing Crowder
I.L.b Akin Ayodele, Reggie Torbor
O.L.b Joey Porter, Charlie Anderson

Just think about the options that we have with guys lik randy starks, matt roth, moses, and most of all merling!

As good as Merling has played the real surprise is Roth, every week he has shown vast improvement. The 4th and goal stop that Merling is getting credit for really should go to Roth as he absolutely blew up the play by driving his man 3 yds into backfield right into Johnson. He has even looked good in coverage with the only mistake I saw was a few plays before when he left his man to chase Croyle out of bounds and Croyle just dropped it behind him to the man Roth was covering. So your depth chart with Merling ahead of Roth is premature IMO, now I still say move Roth inside though.

Keep Merling at RE, PLEASE. We'll have to live with Anderson/Moses if Porter's injury is that serious.

why not put merling at linebacker? the guy runs a 4.6 40 and matt roth runs like a 4.75.. Saying that, I also think we are going to run alot of zone blitzes this year. freeing up the defense to make alot more plays on the short to intermediate passes
