Just thought Id dig up some info on QB slaries ove the last 5 years...Obviously this is a business, but if you want to win championships, you sometimes have to make monetary sacrifices...

2005---Ben Roethlisberger-I couldnt find his 2005 # but 2004=$ 2,002,000

2004---Tom Brady-$ 5,504,200

2003---Tom Brady-$ 3,129,700

2002---Brad Johnson-$ 5,503,150

2001---Tom Brady-$ 314,993

All Im saying, is I dont want to, and I doubt Saban will be willing to, put a huge chunk of the cap into the QB position when obviously teams can win with lower paid guys.

wow....well if Brady is earning 5 million a year, i reallly dont wanna see Brees signed to anymore than 4 mill a year...same with Roethlisberger. With this, this shows that Brees shouldnt be earning that much....didnt Gus earn 4 million last year???

Tom Brady was on a 6th round rookie contract the first time he went to SB, and the numbers do not include signing and roster bonuses. In comparison here is some information on his latest contract, which doesn't even make him the highest paid QB - even Vick gets more money when all bonuses has been added.

From Boston Globe:

After months of negotiating and number-crunching, the Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady have agreed to a six-year contract worth $60 million that makes the two-time Super Bowl Most Valuable Player one of the highest-paid players in the NFL.

While Brady's signing bonus of $14.5 million is significantly less than those received by quarterbacks Peyton Manning ($34.5 million) and Donovan McNabb ($20.5 million), the Patriots' star is slated to receive a $12 million roster bonus next March, and $40.5 million in salary and bonuses in the first three years of the deal.

This extension is after the years they won superbowls, so if they come back before 2010 and win another then your post has merit..If Vick, Manning, Mcnabb or another mega contract QB wins a superbowl in the next few years then maybe you can talk...

Based on the last 5 years you could also say that young QB's win SB's

Brady was on a rookie contract when he won the first two and the same goes for Roethlisberger this year. The exeption to this rule was Brad Johnson who I've always thought was a very good QB. He is easily overlooked because he isn't as charismatic and self promoting as a lot of other QB's.That might also have hurt his contract value.

Steelers are very lucky to have a star QB on a rookie contract, but all players who has proven themselfes in the NFL, regardless of position, look to a big payday when they become UFA so it all comes down to wheter a team is lucky/good at predicting which rookies are going to succede and which will falter.

Alex Smith was paid a lot of money last year by the niners and he has been a bust so far.
