I'm not too sure how happy I am abou this. The Mets rotation is old, and fragile. Seo was just starting to look good. I know the Mets need better depth in the pen, but I'm not excited.

There goes 1 of the 2 decent relievers the Dodgers had in Sanchez. The Bullpen minus Gagne is going to be brutal next year.

I like the trade; Sanchez is a very good, young and cheap reliever, and the bullpen needed help badly. Plus, this probably signals the end of their pursuit of Danys Baez, which means Aaron Heilman's sticking around. Heilman will give the rotation protection against injury; they can use him like the Angels used Scot Shields in 2002 or the Red Sox used Tim Wakefield for most of the last 5 years: start if someone's hurt or needs a rest, relieve otherwise.

As for the bullpen, I don't think they will be as bad off as many think. Gagne should be ready to go come spring training and Yhency Brazoban has tore up the Winter League. Those two will lock up the 8th and 9th innings. D.J. Houlton, who could fight for the last starting spot has a young live arm and will probably be the long releiver out of the pen. The res is somewhat unknown. L.A. has a lot of really good arms in the minors and I would be willing to bet that players like Kuo and Osoria will probably compete for some spots along with Edwin Jackson.
I really think the concernfor me is offense. I know they have Kent, Nomar, Mueller and Furcal, but they got really old this offseason and most of those guys have an injury history (not to mention J.D. Drew). Oh well. I guess that is why they play the game though!

By the way, The Dodgers traded two minor leaguers for Danny Baez and Lance Carter today. That adds two All-Star relievers to the rotation on top of Gagne and the talentd Brazoban. Bullpen officially shored up.

Tiffany hurts, but L.A. has such a deep farm system on arms that losing him won't sting AS much. Now, if only they could get Hochever signed...
