And it's a good thing they did...'cuz nobody else could. They picked a bad week for McMahon to be out.

McMahon wasn’t out. He played in that game.

He wasn’t 100% but he wasn’t out either.

Regardless, McMahon wasn’t part of Chicago’s 46 defense and had nothing to do with Marino, Nat Moore, the Marks Bros and Co. piling up 38 points on that defense.

Besides, Walter Payton still played and he was the Bears offense.

Well McMahon had like 6 passes and an INT...the other guy (Fuller?) threw a bunch more passes and had 2 INTs himself. The turnovers were the big difference in that game. Bears had them in ToP, 1st downs, yards...

And true...Marino and the boys did well.

Anyone remember Marino being interviewed on GMA the next morning? I was young, but seem to recall seeing it while eating my cereal before school and deciding maybe i like the dolphins, but I cannot find squat to confirm this.

Turnovers are usually a game changer, no doubt.

But it didn’t matter who lined up under center for CHI that night. It wasn’t making a difference. The Bears defense wasn’t gonna stop MIA’s offense very often.

Honestly, that Bears team probably could have advanced to and won the SB with any starting QB from around the league that season. Because their defense was that dominant.

Except against MIA and Marino, of course.

CHI should be forever grateful to NE for upsetting the Dolphins in the AFC Championship. Our QB and offense was just a bad matchup for the scheme they overwhelmed other teams with.

The Bears were a real threat to go undefeated in 1985. They came down to Miami for the Monday Night football game. The won Super Bowl 20 or XX that year by crushing the Patriots 46-10. They figured they'd roll into town with their undefeated record and just beat us up. Dec 2, 1985 the mighty Bears came to town with their 12-0 record and some ugly intentions. That had Sweetness, Walter Payton, an all time great, Richard Dent, Willie Gault, Dan Hampton, Wilbur Marshall, The Fridge, Mike Singletary and the always crazy but effective QB Jim McMahon. The Dolphins countered with Dan Marino. He played a magnificent game defending Coach Shula's undefeated record and the Dolphins walked away with a huge victory that would not be soon forgotten.

With the down years it's easy to forget that the Fin's are a storied franchise in the NFL. It's been great to see the last 5 games, not so great the 7 before that. But, the last draft class is a great one and Flo's has the guys playing excellent football. I guess better late than never!! Let's keep the wins going.

100% on all counts. Anyone recall the game Walter Payton played emergency QB and they still won? Their passing game was extremely meh. It was defense and Payton that made those mid 80’s teams so good. Jim McMahon wasn’t even very good. He was ok.
