Miami Dolphin Free Agents

You know what... I'm really looking forward to the 2026 season. It kind of reminds me of the 2019 season where we just scoured cuts and practise squads for gems. We were awful but there was something fun about watching the likes of Avery Moss, Vince Biegel and Nik Needham battling for their NFL careers. It also brought us Zach Sieler of course.

No matter what they decide to do with Tua and Tyreek there's going to be a wild amount of cheap players on the roster. After the last couple of seasons of dreading games in case we're awful and lose it'll just be refreshing to not really care too much about the result and just watch some young guys develop. It also sets up a very exciting offseason 12 months from now.

It's also going to be fascinating to see how / where Sully looks to identify these diamonds in the rough. I adore how he talks about the lines of scrimmage and the Quarterback position. A change of philosophy there is infinitely exciting. I think Grier completely lost that spirit of unearthing gems in favour of signing bigger name declining guys like Beckham, Britt, Gay and Judon towards the end of his tenure. That was likely out of desperation but it still had a negative impact on chemistry, our salary cap and ultimately results. Hopefully Sully is more disciplined with his principles. I'm sure he will be.

I would try to resign Dulcich and Douglas.

Dulcich was a pleasant surprise this past year
I'm with you there. Dulchich should be a priority, but he may have played himself into a higher tax bracket towards the end of the year.

I wouldn't mind Jones, Hill and Brunskill at the right price.

A fair number of these guys did a solid job for us this year. Borum, in particular, was widely laughed at and insulted by the bros here. ...and yet, he did a credible job. Nothing flashy, just solid just-a-guy work for us.

C'mon, you remember the squealing and gnashing of teeth when he was signed. "The worst ever', they cried. "he's gonna get someone killed," they squealed... and yet, I suppose the same bros will cry and squeal when we sign guys like that this year.

Myself... I'd rather sign 5 of these guys for the 1-2m each that they tend to get rather than one 10m/year Free Agent. I've always figured that taking more shots is better than signing one expensive guy. Hell... look what happens to a team when their big FA signing gets injured. We got a Hell of a lot more play out of Borum, Waller, Douglas, and Dulcich than Carolina got out of Robert Hunt this year. Jonnu was a bust for Pittsburgh this year. Don't even get me started on the Christian Wilkins mess.

I LIKE reclamation projects and signing third tier FAs late in the FA period. If even half of them give you anything, you win. The REAL mess is signing the expensive FAs...

Any idea what the avg is every year in NFL? Thought I heard Mike say 19 percent.
It varies a bit year by year but I've read as high as in the 30% range.

"NFL teams typically experience a 25-35% roster turnover rate annually, with an average of roughly 60% of players returning from the previous season. This means, on average, over a third of an NFL roster is replaced, primarily due to salary cap constraints, free agency, and draft picks. " - from SOURCES, haha.

"..Some teams may see less than 50% of their roster return, such as the Patriots in 2024, reflecting significant team changes."

Nothing really that should be a priority. I’d bring back Douglas on a short pact if he doesn’t price himself out.
I think with his age and how much money he will command he probably leaves.

We need to think about our timeline to win and its not in the next 2 years. Its 2028 and beyond.

Our Salary Cap situation hasn't been this skanky since we had that dolt Dawn Aponte, the Senior Vice President of Football Administration for the Miami Dolphins, managing the team's salary cap and contract negotiations.

It used to crack me up that our commenters called her our "Secret Weapon." lol Our roster always sucked, we were an average team, & had one of the worst Salary Caps in the NFL for years ... overpaying ave players is expensive!!! Typical dummy Ross stuck with her years, until the Titanic was sinking & finally let her go. THEN, Goodell hired her as a "woke woman hire" in the NFL offices, where she muddled stuff up & they finally ditched her!!

"Secret Weapon" & we loved her!! lol
Failing upward..
