Outside of two big-ticket purchases — defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and tight end Jordan Cameron — the Dolphins have been fairly conservative with this offseason's free agent spending.
In fact, Miami has purged the roster so much, cutting the middle-aged veterans who are usually more expensive, they carry more dead money ($23 million) than any other team this season.
And apparently, this was done intentionally to purge the "progress stoppers."According to Mike Tannenbaum, the franchise's new vice president of football operations, the Dolphins have some young players ready to be called up from the bench.
That's why South Florida's NFL franchise appears to be embarking on a youth movement in 2015, and while there's a ton of risk associated with relying on half a dozen youngster to blossom like linebacker Jelani Jenkins and tailback Lamar Miller did last year, and Dallas Thomas didn't, there's also the potential for a handsome reward at the end of the startup venture.
It might not result in a playoff run this year, but who knows where the Dolphins will be in two seasons.
