There has been question that Foster has battled injuries the last few years and he started the 2016 season injured again on the first series of week two. The groin injury sidelined him for the next four weeks but Foster was able to return to practice and was able to make an appearance against the Steelers and the Bills this past Sunday.

With his return came a big decrease in work. In week one Foster carried the ball 13 times and caught three passes for 62 yards. In week two he carried the ball three times before his injury. It was a carry total he would match but not exceed against the Steelers and the Bills.
With Foster now healthy or at least healthier it’s a bit of surprise that heading into the team bye week would be when he would make his announcement and it’s somewhat questionable. Perhaps he is realizing his body has just had enough or maybe it was something else.
Between social media and fan forums speculation has run rampant in the last 24 hours. Some are calling Foster a quitter. A player who is leaving his team mid-way through the season. Others are saying that he realizes that his body can’t take it. Then there is other speculation.

My first reaction to the news that he retired was that it was a mutual decision with this allowing him to go out with dignity rather than be cut.

Another speculative rumor is that the Dolphins planned to release Ajayi during the bye week and they gave Foster the opportunity to end his career his way instead. The Dolphins are getting production out of Ajayi and Damien Williams saw an uptick in carries and involvement as well.

Whatever the case maybe, the fact it doesnt hurt us at all makes it easier to not really care what the motive really is and just wish him luck...

i think he just couldn't do it anymore, two consecutive plays he showed he was done, the dropped pass was the last straw for him

Outstanding acquisition by TBum!

Beyond that, Foster seemed like a class kid -- so all the best to him.

Holy over-analyzation Batman! Does anybody really care why he retired? This isn't like Ricky, in his prime, retiring so he can go smoke weed in Australia.

:) wasn't it India? Didn't he do yoga up in the Himalayas too?

Foster was a great player. Wish him well in his retirement.

Good lord. He retired. Does it matter why?
Some people just love to hear themselves talking (in this case read themselves/writing).

Who is Brian Miller anyways? He will be the first one who has to take a keyboard test before he gets permission to write anything on the internet - when I am President.

You finish what you sign up for so if Foster was the one making this decision then that tells you something IMO. On the other hand if he was politely shown the door by Gase then this is the classy way to handle it for all parties involved. IMO it's the latter as Foster appeared to be a shell of what we witnessed in that first game.
