Dan Campbell said rookie corner Bobby McCain will play on the boundary when the Dolphins visit the Eagles Sunday — before hedging slightly.
“[Bobby] has earned the right to get out there and compete,” Campbell said. “Bobby McCain will play a little bit. Brice [McCain] will still be in the nickel.”
Bobby McCain told reporters Thursday that he has worked some with the starters during practice this week. Campbell said Jamar Taylor will also play on the boundary, so the Dolphins will probably use four corners Sunday — the McCains, Taylor and Brent Grimes.
Grimes has regressed in his third season in Miami. Bills receiver Sammy Watkins exposed him on two long passes last Sunday, and quarterbacks have a passer rating of 90.8 this season when targeting Grimes.
Bobby McCain didn’t play from scrimmage against the Bills but did play well in the two weeks Brice McCain missed earlier in the season due to injury.
[h=3]INJURY UPDATES[/h]Things aren’t as dire for the right side of the Dolphins line as they seemed Wednesday.
Billy Turner returned to practice Thursday after sitting out the day before with a knee injury. Campbell said he expects Turner to play against the Eagles.
Right tackle Ja’Wuan James, meanwhile, remains out with a toe injury. Jason Fox is expected to start in his place for the second straight week; Fox struggled in the second half of the Bills game.
Linebacker Spencer Paysinger also returned to practice after missing Wednesday’s session; he has a neck injury.
Rookie wide receiver DeVante Parker’s status for Sunday remains unclear. He’s still affected by a pesky foot injury but practiced on a limited basis Thursday.
