Stephen Ross, Jeff Ireland and Carl Peterson are on the prowl for the new
Miami Dolphins head coach. It seems that they might have struck out on Jeff Fisher, which is probably a good thing and have now started interviewing with more candidates.
Most recently, the Miami Dolphins have met up with the
Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator, Mike Zimmer.
Zimmer has had a respectable
NFL career as a defensive coordinator for the
Cowboys (2000-06), the
Falcons (2007) and currently the Bengals (2008-present).
Even though Zimmer has had success as a defensive coach, the Miami Dolphins are really lacking in the offensive department, and that is why they should go out and find a successful offensive-minded coach. There are a couple of talented offensive coordinators who might fit well as a head coach in Miami.
One candidate that Miami has yet to go after is
Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski. It has been quite an eventful year for Rob and his Panthers. After drafting Cam Newton in the 2011 NFL draft, Chudzinski helped his team move to number seven in total offense this past season.
If Miami were to select Chudzinski as their head coach for 2012, it would have a confident leader who isn't afraid to take chances. This guy has a very aggressive approach to his offense, and that is something that the Miami Dolphins have not had for a while.
Chudzinski's offense paired with Mike Nolan's defense could make for a very deadly team.
Miami would also be smart to bring in Chudzinski as its head coach because he would then possibly bring in Panthers QB coach Mike Shula (son of Don Shula).
In the end, an upgrade in the offensive department is really what Miami needs. Dolphins fans want a coach with a new energy, someone who isn't afraid to go for it on fourth downs and doesn't have the most predictable playbook in the NFL.
It is clear that the NFL has become a passing league, and there is definitely some promise in
Matt Moore. With his progression, a coach like Chudzinski, and maybe a couple of offensive weapons from the draft, Miami can definitely be contenders in the 2012 season.
