Defensive coordinator Matt Burke has made no such promise, I guess in part because he hasn’t been allowed to speak to the media recently. NFL teams typically allow their coordinators to speak only once a week and Burke will talk when the regular season draws closer. (I’ll relay a story about that relative to Eagles DC Jim Schwartz in the coming days).
Anyway, if Burke could speak publicly he’d have some explaining to do because the past two days the Dolphins defense was at times atrocious.

Anybody that couldn't see this coming based on two things(1. Last year. 2. History of Miami.. either we have a QB and no running game or a defense with no offense, or missing pieces with just a brute of a running back aka Ricky) needs to get their eyes checked. Hell we don't need a great defense, give me middle of the pack and we can get beyond wildcard round!

You can't build a defense in 2 years...that's a 4 yr plan chief

Burke has been the unknown factor that no one has really been talking about and outside of Gase is probably the most important member of the Dolphins that will determine our wins and losses this year.

No game planning, no QB hits, a lot of 7 on 7 drills.....once again I will revert back to two years ago when we dominated the Panthers so bad on defense in scrimmage, they asked us to take it down a notch so they could practice their redzone offense. They went to the Superbowl and we won 6 games. Absolutely nothing to see here!

Armando loves to report on impending disaster. He's much better than Omar Kelly and Adam Beasley but he sure loves the drama. He salivates for it. I honestly expect our run Defense will improve with the addition of William Hayes, Lawrence Timmons and Maualuga. I think we have a lot more talent and depth at DB (and don't forget that Reshad Jones is returning). Let's wait and see how Matt Burke goes before condemning him. He is extremely smart and he is the guy who Gase wanted as his right hand guy on Defense.
My only major disappointment with the Defense is the unavailability of Raekwon McMillan, due to injury, but it is what it is and nothing to be gained from repeated whining. He will be back in a year's time and hopefully in good physical condition and at that point we get to see what we have.

Wasn't expecting much out of the defense this year even before training camp, still feel the same way. Defense needs more talent --->2018.

Valid concerns but also a mid August report.

Exactly. Good experience/film to evaluate their progress and see where they are blowing assignments, and still time to fix. I'm less concerned with the defensive play of the Fins right out of the gate and more intrigued with what it looks like 6 games or so into the season. Most teams are sloppy early on. Our defensive woes in our recent past certainly perks our radar when we see reports like this, but we still have to give this crew some time to see what they will look like in 2017.

I think it was a great learning experience. It should only help them in the regular season.

There's just no way in my mind that all those veterans on the defense don't make lemonade with that experience.
