Miami Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland has a daunting task ahead of him this offseason: to save the Fins from toiling away in the bowels of the AFC East. In his three seasons as general manager, Ireland has failed to escape the hole the Dolphins have dug themselves into for over a decade, but at least now, it seems he is putting down the shovel and trying a different strategy.

In late January, Ireland hired an offensive-minded head coach in Packers' former offensive coordinator, Joe Philbin. More recently, he told the press that two of the Dolphins' offseason priorities were acquiring a franchise quarterback and an athletic tight end—the key ingredients to the Packers', Saints' and Patriots' success.

Various sources close to the Dolphins' front office believe that impending free agent, Peyton Manning, is first on the Fins' wish list, while jostling for Matt Flynn and Robert Griffin III are plans B and C.
Below you will find the latest free agency news and speculation on the Miami Dolphins:
* Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald: "If the Dolphins are led to believe by agent Tom Condonthat they're a serious contender for Manning when he's released - and that his arm should be strong enough by the start of the season - then they are expected to wait as long as necessary on Manning if he doesn't make a decision quickly. That's because owner Stephen Rossis infatuated with the idea of signing him. The Dolphins believe they have a realistic chance of luring Manning, who owns a condo in South Beach and has an affinity for South Florida."

I think we are putting all of our eggs in a basket, I dont know if this is pure media BS, or if Ross is really going to make Philbin get Manning. I hope this isnt Philbin saying that he does not approve of Flynn, because that would only leave us with the draft to address QB. Manning can not be our only solution. We need to have back up plans and if worst comes to wrost move forward with Moore. I am terrified we do everything to get Manning only to have a Culpepper 2.0 (not that culpepper is 1/4 the player Manning is) but the injury quickly depleted his career.

If Philbin doesn't approve of Flynn then he just doesn't. We're in a tough spot to be in with this years QB market. So much risk and still a few QB hungry teams. And this year the risk is GREATER than the Brees/Daunte year. But even with that said we gotta try and get a QB on this team.

Stockpiling good QB's ? Now there's a novel idea. Even if they settle on Flynn instead of manning we need to use a high pick on a QB to develope or trade later.

I don't think Manning and Tannehill is realistic. Manning would command almost all of our salary room and Tannehill (at this point) would need to be our first round pick if we want to get him. No way this team invests THAT much in one position at the expense of others.

A more realistic scenario is Manning and a guy like Foles who will be available in round 2 or later.

For the record, I do NOT want Manning at all. This team needs an option that could be the long term solution, and Ross doesn't seem to understand that ticket sales won't come if the team signs Manning and he ultimately does not play.

They aren't going to sign him if they don't KNOW he is going to play.

my favorite offseason acquisition would be Carl Nicks, and then an RT in the 1st round...boom, our OL is solid for 10 years.

We can draft a QB with the #8/9 pick if Tannehill/ RGII/ or maybe Weeden are still there, but I think that is very unlikely.
I think Ireland is going to take a pass rusher or RG/RT. It is not what I would do, but that has been his MO.
I think we go into the season with Moore, and possibly pick up Manning or Flynn if the price is right.
If we fall to land Manning or Flynn, we will draft a second tier QB to groom. Osweiler or Foles

I don't know if the Dolphins will have room to sign him but Mark Anderson is this year's Antwan Barnes. He's a superb pass rusher with ridiculous athleticism. He's a little rougher around the edges but I consider him about the same player that Cliff Avril is up in Detroit. If the Patriots let him escape, the Dolphins should be all over him.
