That's a pretty good assessment of the two.Wilkins isn't a two gapper, although he can play the position. I would draft him over Lawrence in a heartbeat if:
BPA is Wilkins...BPA who fits a need is Lawrence, and Lawrence is my guy
- we weren't developing Godchaux
- we weren't trying to get more physical in the front 7.
- he is there at 13 (maybe).
The thing I'm not sure of is whether we lean more toward finding players to fit a "concrete" philosophy, or we modify our "philosophy" to play to strengths of decent players we already have.
My guess, at least year one, would be a combination of both.
Some players are better suited to do one thing, as opposed to another, but some of that can surely be mitigated by a superior coaching staff, and a viable plan. Neither of which has most of our defensive players had the past few years.
