The Dolphins selected rookie Caleb Sturgis over veteran Dan Carpenter for his potential to provide them with a consistent long-distance threat in the kicking game.

Sturgis watched Carpenter boot a game-winning field goal for Buffalo the first time the Dolphins played the Bills in October resulting on one of the team’s costliest defeats this season.
And while Sturgis has improved since a stretch that coincided roughly around the time of that defeat, it’s Carpenter that’s been one of the league’s most consistent kickers.
“There are a lot of us that wish we had a better game, and we let that one slip away,” Sturgis said. “I definitely didn’t hit the goals I’d want to at this point in the season.

It's been a rough year for Sturgis, the groin injury didn't help either

I would have drafted another player at Sturgis' spot and kept Carp. The team DID realize good saving money-wise, but I like veteran kickers esp at this time of year.

I was done with Carp after last year. I'm just hoping Sturgis can put it all behind him, he definitely has the leg.
Carpenter( like an alarming number of former Dolphins) is playing much better this than last

I get the move once Sturgis was drafted. I like Carp. I cannot lie. He missed some big kicks, but all kickers do.

I like Caleb, he definitely has a strong leg. Needs work on the accuracy but I think that will improve in time.

They need to sign a vet or bring in a UDFA to push him next summer.

I like that he came out and said this. I see a bright future with him once he gets used to the lights....

I think they will, it's the fair and smart thing to do. It's not like they have a ton of money invested in him, personally I would just like to have a kicker that I don't feel like he's going to miss everytime he lines up regardless of where he is on the field...and sadly that's how I feel about Sturgis this year.
