While the rest of the planet argues about the Pro Bowl -- disagreeing about where it should be played, when it should be played and whether it should be played -- allow me to present one undeniable fact:
The players in this year's game are still stars.

Some of them are replacing players that suddenly came down with mysterious ailments never before seen on regular-season injury reports. Some are replacing players from the two Super Bowl teams.

But the brightness of this year's constellation of AFC and NFC
stars is still dazzling. Sure, Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger have other things to do, so the NFL asked Houston's Matt Schaub to suit up instead.
Maybe you have heard of Schaub. He led the NFL in passing yards during the regular season.

Drew Brees also couldn't play this Pro Bowl because he made a last-second commitment to play in some other big game coming up next week. (It seems Miami is destined to be a day late and a dollar short on Brees forever, following the Dolphins' two failed opportunities to land him.)

i thought this thread was about dan carpenters missed fg in the pro bowl.

yea garrard is a star. please. armando still whining about brees? get over it.

Just another lame article by Armando. Like I have said before, he makes every day sound like a slow news day.

No pro bowl talent besides bell and carpenter? If long didn't back out that would have been another pro bowler representing us. Brown was on pace for a pro bowl season before he got injured so thats another. Lou Polite is easily pro bowl material but got snubbed. You could say the same for Randy Starks. So that would make 6 players with pro bowl talent on the team. What an embarassing article.

this team is lacking a playmaker on offense and defense. ronnie is great but hurt a lot. randy starks in a borderliner, yeremiah is solid but not great. Long is a beast. Polite is a beast. Still need a big name reciever and a solid ILB

Why do we need a "big name" receiver? We didn't have problems scoring points last year. We had problems keeping everyone else from scoring points.

We don't "need' a big name receiver but we do need play makers for Chad Henne.

We do...?

We have several Pro Bowl talents who will earn their spots. The Pro Bowl is a joke though. How Garrard was in even in the Pro Bowl beats me...

Cameron Wake I'm sure will be a pro bowler, once he establishes himself, earns his starting position next season, it'll only be a matter of time. Vontae Davis is lookin like a damn good CB of the future, I'm sure he'll be seeing some pro bowls too, not sold yeat on Sean Smith, he looked great in the preseason, but during the regular season he looked like our #2 CB, we have a really good OL, the better our team does running the ball throughout the year the more likely we are to get more than just Jake Long in, just like the Jets did, they were #1 in the league running the ball, they had 3 pro bowlers on their OL, we got the talent, but most of them are young and unrecognized by the rest of the NFL and it's fans so far.

Because we don't have a guy we can go to in the clutch. look at the indy game. we had nobody to take control that last drive. trust me I understand we need defense bad. we couldn't stop the colts or the saints the 2nd half but look at every team that has won a superbowl lately. everyone of them has had a big name reciever.

Well all of the guys who played in the Pro Bowl aren't on the teams playing in the SB right? So then who cares if they're in the Pro Bowl or not, they aren't good enough collectively as players to have gotten to the big game.

Ronnie Brown and Jake Long are guys who can be consistent Pro Bowlers. Lou Polite played at a Pro Bowl level, so did Randy Starks.

Problem with our team is, we run a 3-4 . . . and we were not CLOSE to having a LB or a NT playing in the Pro Bowl. Pittsburgh has Woodley and Harrison, Denver had Dummerville, Bmore has Suggs and Lewis, Dallas has Ware, Green Bay has Matthews. At NT, all the 3-4 teams have Pro Bowlers . . . Hampton, Wilfork, Ngata, Ratliff, Justin Smith . . . . These are the 2 most important positions in the 3-4, and we have a void of talent.

It's clear we need to address NT or LB.

I'm not worried. This new regime has only had two drafts. They tore apart the old aging roster we were used to having and re-built it with an young talented one. They are not Pro Bowl talented yet, but there are some on this roster who will be when they reach their potential. I'm not worried, and I know this roster will continue to get better.
