Miami Dolphins outside linebacker Koa Misi plans to return from injury. Miami has a desperate need at linebacker. (Allen Eyestone / The Palm Beach Post)

INDIANAPOLIS — The Miami Dolphins say linebacker Koa Misi is a part of their plans.
Miami needs linebackers who are sturdy and effective against the run. And when Misi is healthy, he’s both.
“Koa right now is coming off significant neck surgery so we’ve just got to see where it is,” Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said at the NFL Scouting Combine. “But right now he’s in our plans. We’ll see. He’s got a checkup again in May so it’ll be probably the first time we’ll really know where he’ll stand in terms of his football career going forward.”
A league source said Misi expects to be fully medically cleared on May 1.
Misi has a salary cap hit of $6.5 million and the team could save more than $4 million if they cut him.

I am glad he is better, but he is not worth the money. He is an average LB to below average LB that gets hurt all the time. The organization can do better.

Nah he is a solid LB . . . the problem is always health. Truth be told I've grown tired of it as well. My hope is they aren't relying on him when talking about an entire season. At least have a solid backup plan in place intsead of UDFA Linebackers.

lol at the organization can do better . . . . have you seen there track record over the last few years at LB? Even they understand that a healthy Koa Misi is better than anything else not named Kiko on this team . . . and its not close. He is spoken highly of by every single coaching staff that has worked with him. It's always health that is the problem.

As desperate as the Dolphins are at LB, we can't risk the season depending on Koa Misi. He will miss time and we will be back to using scrubs to fill in. He should be released and may return on a 1 year prove it (stay healthy) deal as a backup.

I agree with that. His $ needs to be used for a different LB. I'd be OK on 1 year deal.

The problem is we have too many players that can't stay on the field that need a top notch backup as an insurance policy....and we have no depth.

DeVante Parker: needs insurance
Mike Pouncey: needs insurance
Julius Thomas: needs insurance

IAQ: Needs insurance or replacement
Koa Misi: needs insurance
Kiko Alonso: may need insurance
Jordan Phillips: needs insurance due to level of play
Xavien Howard: Early but is starting to show he needs insurance

You can't put together a consistent team with this many questions for starters.

stretching the insurance players a tad, most teams deal with injuries year in and year out. we have to draft and acquire healthy players though.

Unbelievable ...this will be his 8th season with the team if he isn't cut.

Bill Parcells always said the most important ability is availability. He might have gone too far with it, but it is a good point. Misi is injury-prone. He does not help our LB corps on the training table, no matter how good he flashes when he plays ... which is ... solid, but unspectacular. Simply put, we cannot afford him.

If Misi were making 2 INT's and forcing 3 fumbles in the time he was playing, we might have a different conversation. But as it is, he is the backstop in the batting cage. After the draft, I expect him to be released. Only if we have an epic fail in the draft and free agency do I expect him to stay on this roster. If I'm wrong ... well expect another horrible LB corps as Misi will be injured and not performing again this year. There will be no mic drops ... he's just going to be AWOL again this year ... like every year.

Again we need bodies, and were not filing all the needs out with perfect solutions based on availability and cap room.

Going to have to keep some warts at least for 2017 yet again.

Wih the ISA news just really concerned how we fill out the roster. Thats a need we weren't planning on coming in on top of everything else.

Yeah, it seems like we may have more hole then we can possibly fill...

Some area is going to have to be overspent on in FA in order to fill it or we are going to just have to roll through the season with that weakness.

Part of the reason the organization hasn't done better is because we have relied on an undependable player who is mediocre when healthy and is NEVER healthy. Seems like a waste of 6.5 million dollars which could be redirected towards a reliable LB.

Not stretching anything. Just commenting on history. True...most teams deal with injuries. Just not with the same players year after year. Now add in the fact that the majority of those players listed will miss games IN ADDITION to the other injuries than occur like Reshad Jones last year. Xavien Howard is the only player on that list NOT to miss multiple games in consecutive years but he is not off to a great start.
