Michael Preston, a 6-foot-5, 220 pound wide receiver has been cut by the Miami Dolphins. There are countless things a coaching staff can teach their players, but one thing that’s impossible to teach is size and in the NFL, size matters. Preston may not have the most impressive resume, but he’s looked like a star in training camp, outplaying other receivers fighting for a roster spot. A player full of potential has hit the open market — hopefully the New England Patriots don’t notice.

I personally liked Michael Preston as an upside WR.

For some reason the FO decided no.

Now, do I always trust the FO on WR talent decisions? Nah. Philbin and Ireland drove me beyond crazy with their *evaluations* of WRs. It's like they decided each year to draft and keep the lowest ceiling players every year. As long as they were "consistent," whatever that meant. Consistently mediocre?

Do I trust the FO to acquire and develop the best 5-6 WRs? Nope. But thankfully Preston got cut in time to catch on to another team.

Yea he wasn't making the team and he can still be brought back to join the practice squad after cut downs are announced. Miami did him a solid by giving him a chance to catch on with another team to see if he can make a game day roster. He CLEARLY was a different WR when the pads came on in camp and that translated into the preseason. He couldn't separate, which is often the biggest weakness for wide receivers his size.

The timing seems odd so I believe there must be something else, maybe off the field, that got him cut.

Big wrs have to separate its not enough just to be big...he didnt do that vs 2s in games even...nice story but we loaded at wr

Nothing odd. Just giving the kid an early chance to catch on somewhere else as we have a crowded and well-rounded corp. Wish 'em the best.

This is so true. I was hyped for him but he cooled off quick

That was the problem with Roberto wallace.

It's a business. You don't release a guy to give him a better chance to catch on with someone else, you release him as soon as you don't him need him anymore. There are no favors in this business.

I doubt they did it has a favor, its basically because the other receivers we have are better than him. No team is salivating to sign this guy. Im sure he may get another chance but they cut Preston who the hell really cares

If we really want to keep a big WR on the final 53, we still have LaRon Byrd, who is 6'4", 220 lbs, and actually ran a 4.45 in the 40 (compared to 4.60 for Michael Preston). And he's actually showed up in game situations

And he torched us last year in preseason (at the 0.44 mark):

Are we going to get an article about everyone the team cuts? Does the author care to tell us who should have been cut instead? Devonte Parker, Jarvis Landry, Greg Jennings, Rishard Matthews, Kenny Stills, or Matt Hazel?
