Using the model of ESPN's new series I thought it might be fun to see who you guys would put on the Miami Dolphins Mt. Rushmore? I am 22 years old and never got to see the '70s Dolphins so I left them off my list. I would appreciate everyone else to stick to the players in your own generation. Plus dont simply put the best player, use your heart a little bit in making your decision.

Here is my list...

Dan Marino- Im sure he will be on everyones list. He is the reason I became a Dolphin fan. Which is insaine since I grew up in Packer country, and am the grandson of Packer season ticket holder (since the icebowl). My role mode,l my inspiration (both on and off the field)!

Pat Surtain- I played CB in highschool and college. He has been the closest thing to a shutdown corner the Fins have ever had. I modeled my playing style around him. Plus any one who can change the pronunciation of his name half way through their career and get everyone to go along with it, your a stud.

Zach Thomas- An undersized guy who continuely was told he wouldnt make. Then went on to have a hall of fame type career. I still have an article I frame from SI. It was an interveiw with Zach. He said, during his first game he was standing on the sidelines with Larry Izzo. He had tears streaming down his face, but he didnt care he know he had made it.

OJ McDuffie- After the Marx brothers, he was the best WR Dan ever had. He wasnt the fastest and didnt have the greatest hands. But he was a great route runner and Dan knew he could be counted on. Will never forget when he caught Dannys 400th td. (I believe it was against the Saints).

I forgot to add my honorable mention....

Jason Taylor- The way he handled last offseason is the only reason he is left off my Mt. Rushmore. Asking to be traded after "Daning with the Stars" during the offseason showed he wasnt dedicated to football. But he did play his heart out for the Dolphins for many years; including our franchises darkest days. Despite playing for some crappy teams he won a defensive player of the year award, and developed into one of the most feared pass rushers in the game. He (like Zach Thomas) beat the odds and put together a hall-of-fame type career. Not to mention all his charity work he has done in South Florida mirrors that of Dan Marino (it earned him NFL "Man of the Year" award).

Csonka should replace Mcduffie or Surtain for sure

Interesting thought on Shula....

Csonka should replace Mcduffie or Surtain for sure

Well you didnt read my post well enough. I never saw Csonka play. The others I have. Thats why I called it MY Mt. Rushmore.

Shula would be an interesting addition. He has done alot for the organization. But during my lifetime he ruined so many drafts, and sometimes I blame him for not putting the right system or personnel in place to get Marino a Superbowl. I know some of that isnt all his fault, but you cant tell me he wasnt involved in some of those decisions.

P.S. Patting myself on the back for my 1,500th post

Ya sorry about that, I didn't read the post well enough. In that case I agree with your list, my heart wants to put Ricky on there but in reality that one great season he had with us isn't enough compared to what the guys you listed accomplished. (I'm 21 so I'm pretty much in the same boat as you when it comes to players we've seen.)

ZT meant more to our defense and was more of a leader than JT could ever even fathom being.

Great point batmann. Im not saying rushing the passer is easy; it takes extraordinay talent. But being an ILB is compared to being the QB of the Defense. It is his job to recognize formations, get everyone in position, than make the tackle. Way more challenging from a mental aspect.
